Ok, here's one for you, last Thursday i was walking back from an exam, on a path that overlooks the railway line, it's pretty lonely up there, so i was walking pretty fast, but, as always, i looked down to the railway line to see if there was anything there, there was, as far as i could tell, a class 50! in large logo blue! heading an oil train! off the Sheffield by-pass. Can anyone confirm this, or have i just seen my first ghost...?
Romance! The season tickets mourn,
HE never ran to catch his train,
but passed with coach and guard and horn,
and left the local, late again!
Confound Romance, and all unseen,
Romance brought up the 9:15!

Most interesting thread!
Though not as spectacular as most of your stories, i have one myself. Nothing special, easily explained but still.
Must've been sometime in the morning, can't remember exactly, i was heading for bristol on a rather stuffy 150. Naturally, everyone opened the windows, and as we were entering the Severn Tunnel, i noted the distinct smell of burning coal. As far as i knew, there weren't any Steam Specials running that day, and as there were no spotters to be spotted (har) i assumed that there wasn't.
When we were sufficiently into the tunnel, the sound levels within the 150 started to rise, and these were the sounds of clanking and banging. (Not those clanking and banging sounds normally associated with 150's
) The noises continued, and im pretty sure that i could hear the sounds of a steam engine running. To be completely honest, i was quite worried at the sounds, i thought something was seriously wrong. After exiting the tunnel on English Turf, everything was normal.
I know that im not alone in this, other members of my family could also smell the coal, and had heard the noises.

Could it be Tregenna Castle? That didn't crash, but it was shot at by Nazi planes, and ran into the Severn Tunnle to avoid them...by all accounts she ran faster than she ever had, and ever did that night. So, maybe she's still there...still saving her ghostly passengers to this day?

You mean Victoria? Just like the old queen, she couldn't stand impertinence, so bang! away went the boiler, down went the plane...

Sounds like when Oliver escaped from the scrapyard and hid in the cuttings in The Railway Series book 23 Enterprising Engines.eddief wrote:This might interest some people
Deltic 55020 Nimbus was sighted by 2 people entering Hadley Wood South Tunnel in September 1980. The only thing is Nimbus was cut-up in February 1980 (yes that is right). There was no reports of a train running through Hadley Wood station let alone a Deltic working. Could it be that there is still a Deltic working on the ECML?

What is truth? What is fiction? Is there such thing? Truth is what you make it, without us, there is no truth, no fiction...
