Springfield Stopper problem

Post by ktbeech »

I'm using the downloaded version of MT Springfield and up till now it's been working fine. I have everything up to date that needs to be but when I run either of the downloaded activities I have problems. When I'm sat in the Northport station waiting to leave in the Springfield Stopper activity and I press any of the external view buttons the activity just freezes solid . Still looking out of the cab with the engine sound just repeating. The three fingured salute eventually gets me back to the desktop after repeated pressing. Also in the other activity , the sightseeing tour I can use external views in the station fine but when I leave the station and start to climb the hill and then try an external view it also crashes the TS program with the same effect as the other activity. But it will carry on it's journey if I don't press an external view until I get to the brow of the hill.
I've installed the route and activities again but i'm still getting the problems. Mainly on the Stopper activity. If I don't press an external view in the station I'm ok to drive off and once out of the station I can select an external view ok but going up the incline if I then press an external view the program crashes again......very strange.
Any ideas guys as this has me stumped....All other routes using UKFS are fine and so far I haven't noticed this problem with any other routes or activities?
I am loading it through Trainstore easy mode with nothing pre-stored.
I've tried reducing the graphics levels but it's still the same but when I can drive the Voyager I'm getting 15 to 20 fps leaving the station with the graphics on max so I can't see that it could be graphics related.
I did run the route through routeriter when I installed it again and it did replace some missing files, mainly snow textures. Maybe the file/files corrupted when I downloaded them but before I download them again as they are so large I thought I would ask if any one else has had this problem before in this route or any other as I can't find it using a search.

Hi Kev

I have had absolutely no problems with the Route or David's Springfield Stopper Activity (I tested it for David before he uploaded it.)

One thing I did uncover just recently is that if you use Win XP SP2 and you leave your Anti-Virus & Firewall Programs switched on it can corrupt your Installation of the Route and the Activities.

I suggest you delete your MT Springfield Route installation and then clean everything up using Route Riter to remove any unused Consists etc etc then turn off any programs you have running then Re-Install the Route - check the Route with RR (I found no errors) then install the Activity and re-check with RR.

I turn my graphics setting down two notches and disable all shadows when running MT_Springfield.

Hope the above helps.

Kindest Regards

You might also find that your sound settings may need to be lowered slightly too. I dropped mine down two notches for the activities i wrote for the CD version :) There is a sound channel fix but i forget the link to the thread now - you could try a search.

WARNING: Don't switch 'off' your protection!!!

Please don't make vague claims like this which might worry some people and cause them to switch 'off' valuable protection. (It is all too easy to forget to switch things back on before you go on-line.) At least provide details of the products involved (firewall & antivirus), and some indication of what the 'corruption' might have been.

There might be problems with specific products under specific conditions, but there are no inherent problems with firewalls and anti-virus programs which 'cause corruption'.

Having seen one of the problems on your system aired in the forum recently, and the 'needed' solution, I suspect that you may have wider problems with your installation. Perhaps these were caused by taking actions after similar vague and incorrect advice?

Laurie's suggestion concerning the Sound Settings is relevant. Try http://forums.atomic-systems.com/viewtopic.php?p=503909

Hi Tony

I appreciate your feedback and I was only giving my experience to try and help others who may be experiencing similar problems that I had and I hoped I wasn't been vague.

Invariably with any CD software purchased today the information I posted re turning off Anti Virus & Firewall programs prior to installing is given by the CD producers in their Readme's.

I always set my Anti Virus and Firewalls to turn on automatically after re-booting but I accept that it is imperative to remember if they have been turned off.

I am sorry if my advice was incorrect.

Kindest Regards

Mike,

I apologise, I read your post incorrectly. I took it to mean that we should switch them off during normal use.

As regards during installation, I think this is 'catch-all' advice for installers that don't check their error replies properly - they just assume everything has worked.

I think a properly set-up firewall and A.V. will tell you when they prevent some action. So, it is easy to see whether there has been any interference, even if the installer software doesn't realise it. I don't switch them (AVG + ZoneAlarm) off during installations, and so far I have not seen any problem using Win ME.

Thanks

Sorry for the late reply gents but I've been away for a few days so hadn't had chance to work on my home computer and the 'Springfield problem'.
Yes Mike up until recently the acts on Springfield were working fine on my computer aswell but as Tony knows I had been messing with my TS setup a bit trying to cheat it after a fashion but I realised that you couldn't really do that so I'm back to using Tony's good old Trainstore.
Having said this I was able to clear out many unused and older pieces of stock and consists from my folders so I could obtain the room to install the Skipton to Carlisle route which I had collecting dust....What a route that is...superb....but alas I now believe that by installing that route and considering the amount of extra stock and consist files it generated it just took my MSTS over the edge and started to create unusual things happening, hence my original question, but I decided to copy the camcfg.dat file over from the MSTS install disk just in case that had become corrupted and low and behold it worked....I can now scan around my networker in the station no problem....but I still have a problem as I climb the incline ....unfortunately it crashes on me again if I select an external view so I am going to download the Springfield files again but seperately this time rather than the three together as I did before to see if somehow the last time the files were corrupted as I did have a few missing files in RR when I installed it previously.
I did try the sound reduction suggestion and reduced it to low but no effect whatsoever....the same with graphics reduction so it stinks of a currupt file/files somewhere as it's only happening in this route.
I'll let you know how I go and thanks again for the help.
regards
