giving up on my pc to run msts.
hi all
iv really had enough for now.
since i got hacked 2 yrs ago my pc not the same.
dont get me wrong i have a powerful pc. well it was 5 years ago. compaq 5000 uk series. 1.2 .
iv tried using recovery cd to make my pc the way when i 1st bought it. and tried cleaning my pc so it can run even the simple default msts routes but even now it makes my pc do that juddering effect.
so wont be too long till sell this one buy new pc even which can handle all the good routes.
sorry if its been mentioned before but what specs shall i look for a powerfull pc to play the routes without turning down the setting on msts.
many thanx
matty

I can run the rocket train full speed on highly crowded areas with no problem on my laptop.

Dell Inspiron 6000
40gb HD (added an extra 80gb)
512MB RAM
ATI Mobility Radeon X300
I got mine for about £600 from ebay, i think my one costs about £750-£800 at RRP.

Bloody hell....I've had 3 in those 5 years...........although the one I've currently got is now 2 years old.....but I'm not looking to replace it.
Basically anything produced ATM will run msts.....but the better the graphics card...the more RAM...and the faster the HDs the better....and go for XP pro for the OS.
Cheers
Jon

My 1st PC was really powerfull (at the time), the 486 DX with 4 Mb Ram was an arse kicking machine.delticmatt100 wrote:hi all

Matt, you really need to understand that things move on, and in the PC World, they move on at a very fast rate. Buying a PC is like buying a car, you are not buying something thats going to be 'new' for ever.
Like Jon, I've had about 3 PC's in 5 years, its only the last 2 years that things have slowed down a bit, but in the years before that, the PC spec was probably doubling every year.
If you were looking for a new PC, I'd suggest you look for something like a 3Ghz, 1Gb RAM, and decent 3D card.

I'm looking at a magazine review showing the latest and greatest machines. 2 cpu's, 2 SLI Graphics cards, 2 HD's in Raid 0, 2 GB ram and a rocket-propelled bus speed. All for a mere $8,000.00.
Would this machine run MSTS any better than my 2 year old tortoise? I very much doubt it.
On the other hand, when the new sims show up, we may all have to buy new machines to run them effectively.

My first PC had 1K of memory and needed a plug-in tape cassette in lieu of a hard drive. A 16K ram expansion cost the earth and crashed the machine with the slightest wobble! The graphics, black and white text only. I'm pretty sure there were some train sims available for it too.
Ah, the good old days.

Did it also have a crank handel that you wound it up with?JohnKendrick wrote:My first PC had 1K of memory and needed a plug-in tape cassette in lieu of a hard drive.
