Paint Your Wagon Problems and Tips.

Post by ianmacmillan »

I have created this thread to answer any problems and try to help if you run into difficulties.

Please post your problems here to keep everything together.

Don't try to create a masterpiece straight away. start with something simple to get experience and read the help files in PSP to see how it works.

Practice especially the lettering and try out the fonts on a scrap file first until you know what can be done.

Good luck.

Strangely no problems yet!

Here is a sample of the next one - an end door version of the 7 plank.

Just an excuse to bump this thread to the top before someone starts a new one.

To be serious, reskinning is a good way to get into modelling and Ian's clearly making an attempt to draw more people into creating their own content which is very fulfilling no matter how small the first step.

It rarely pays to jump in at the deep end.

Perhaps this thread should be a sticky somewhere?

Might get lost otherwise.

Over 100 download and not a word.

Has anybody tried it?

Let me know if you are having problems and if not, lets see a screenshot.

Still nothing.

I've got a 7 plank end door. a 5 plank and a 3 plank dropside read but I don't think I'll bother.

Hi Ian, I'm still on with the PaintKit.
It's wonderfull, thank you.
Just learnt to edit *.s file ( first time ever ! )
Without your instruction I would have never done it,
so much to take in though Ian, perhaps thats why people
are slow to respond ?
While I'm on, can a load be shortened ?
I have one just protruding through a wagon !
Be pleased to hear from you if it's possible ?

Regards - Dave :P

The load should fit perfectly.
Must have sneaked past me.

Tell me the name of it and I'll fix it.

If it's not one of the loads in the RCH_1923 folder you can resize it with SFM. Remember to rename it first or it will not fit in the intended wagons.

Ian

Dying to have a go but waiting for delivery of PSP9, as my PSP5 won't handle the selection files.

I'm still working on mine, but with no PSP9 ( or any psp ), i can't do the lettering trick with the paint program i currently use ( Adobe Photoshop Elements ), this is why it's taking me a bit longer lol

Don't loose heart Ian, Respose can take a while! The very first activity I made way back in December 2003 didn't get a dicky bird until October last year! I'm going to have a go a doing a few of these wagons as soon as I've finnished all the Class 15 stuff Chris and I are doing....

Lots of questions !

Post by wessy »

Hi Ian and thanks for the reply.
It isn't one of your wagons where the load protrudes through, I am playing about with another one. I am using your " common loads " though,
hope this is ok ?
I did find one load that works though, it was the limestone.s of yours as
you say in the readme the load is only half up the wagon, I did try to raise it with the SFM prog with no success ( any tips for me there Ian ? )
I wonder if you or any one else on this thread can explain what the different files that make up a Wagon " do " so to speak.
ie *.s - *.sd and *.wag ?
It would be nice to know what I'm editing and to be honest I haven't got
a clue, my wagon repainting experience up to press is extracting a *.TGA
from an *.ACE file, pasting a new image on and then exporting back with
Makeace. Your PaintKit is a few steps further on for me, it's going to be very nice to be able to do my own ( hopefully ! )
Couple of other points, do I need PSP9 ?, I have PSP7 is this ok ?
Also, using TGA tools to extract the image from the ACE file, I read that
it is best to export it straight to the editor. then what do you do after editing the image ? Do I save it as a TGA and then use Makeace or is there a way of sending back the edited image back to TGA tools ?
Lots of questions I know, but this is very complicated stuff to take on board easily ( interesting though )

Regards - Wessy :-?

Hi Weesy

PSP 7 worked well for me. It took me 3 attempts before getting it right, however, it's well worth it in the end.
