Lockups on Skipton.

Post by Heatonnorris »

Skipton to Carlisle is still one of my favourite routes and probably always will be if I can sort out these problems.
Since installing it from the CD a couple of years ago I've had problems of lockups on a few of the activities that I learned to live with, but now I'm suddenly getting lockups on most of the activities.Explore mode does'nt give me any trouble and I have no problems with any of my other 29 routes.
I ran it through RouteRiter and the only errors or missing files are......'Missing Service LP_Hellifield_Viewing_01.act.
'LP_Hellifield.srv missing.
The lockups are now on most of the activities,so I was expecting to find a much bigger list of errors.I don't get lockups on any of my other Routes.
Should I try deleting the Route folder and reinstalling from the CD or is overwriting all the stock and consists going to give me even more problems?
Hope someone can help.

I doubt it's the Skipton files that are the problem, but unless you have altered the Skipton stock (file naming, couplings, cabs, etc) from the time of initial install, an overwrite of the files should do no harm.

If you have the HDD space copy the existing Skipton route and Trains folders somewhere outside MSTS while you play so you can recopy back.

Have you installed any utility programmes recently that are grabbing and holding onto your memory?? Progs that load up on Startup??

Skipton does push MSTS a bit and if you now have lower available memory than before, you will get probs................

Thanks fo your reply Dave.I hav'nt installed any utilities recently and in any case,I close everything down with 'Enditall' before firing up MSTS.Re the ram,I have a gig so doubt this is the problem.
Good idea re backing up the folders before re installing,I'll give it a try.

I don't know why it would be worse now than it was, but I do remember encountering many lock-up problems when I wrote my activities for the route. I got over most of them by deleting AI trains and removing static consists, so it seemed to be memory related. Try turning down some of the settings to ease the burden on the PC. Also make sure that nothing else is running in the background. If necessary, re-boot before running MSTS. Also, if you save regularly, you should at least be able to resume your journey after a crash.

Thanks Martin,
I have just reinstalled Skipton and then reinstalled Pat's LMS CD in case any of the sounds were overwritten, because I prefer to keep the Skipton stock in my regular Trainset Folder. I've just tried one of the activities that was giving me trouble and it ran without a hitch so I'll try some more with my fingers crossed.

No,it's still giving me problems.I just tried the activity 'shift 2 part 1',this is an activity which never used to be a problem but now it starts locked up,in other words when I go to click the instructions window off,I can't,it's already locked up.

Just delete most AI trains sitting in a siding, using the activity editor. There were far too many added in the route, and they are even included in areas that activities do not go to! (it still affects the stability of the activity). Some activities work ok but some just have too many static AI trains to load. The static trains which are not real AI trains, will not show up, so you will still see enough goods stuff in the yards.

Hi
Just bumping this one....as although everything is working fine, RR definately reports this service " 'LP_Hellifield.srv "as missing....very strange. :-?

A very enjoyable "activity" that one. I often load it and just let it run in the background whilst I'm doing my paperwork.
