Having had to completely start again due to a knackered hard drive I've found that I can no longer capture screenshots correctly.
I have installed Route Riter, Con Builder, Shape Viewer & Irfan View and it is at this point that something has gone wrong. When I press the usual "print screen" button and then go into my MSTS folder the Irfan icons are there but each picture is of that routes start up screen.
Perhaps the problem lies in the settings or paths I selected when adding Con Builder & Shape Viewer but I would apreciate any input you chaps can give me before I start pulling my installation apart and my hair out.
Thanks in advance
Michael

Hi Michael,
When you press the PrtScr button from within MSTS, it should copy the screen into the same folder as your Train.exe file (usually the Train Simulator folder).
The file will be named scrgrb0.pcx for the first one and the number increments for further screen grabs.
At the same time, the picture is copied to your clipboard. So if you exit MSTS after pressing PrtScr, and run a Paint program, you should be able to select Paste from the Paint programs menu and see which picture has been grabbed.
As far as I know there is no way to change the place MSTS saves the screen grabs, so it is strange if they are not appearing where they should. Make sure that the ones you see in your Train Simulator folder are not read only, and MSTS is unable to overwrite them?

I'm back with this topic again and still struggling to get a result. I have the scrgrb items appearing in the train simulator folder but they are always of that routes start up screen. However, if I open paint, right click and paste I get the correct screenshot. Though this method would only work for one pic at a time and result in me constantly having to exit the activity to paste a screenshot.
Mike. Would it help if I reinstalled Route Riter, Conbuilder and shapeviewer and if so, in which order?
Tis damn frustrating. I've just installed the Making Tracks Springfield route which is ideal for getting cracking screenshots.

Try Multi grab from Martin Wrights site... http://www.mnwright.btinternet.co.uk/
lets you grab mutiple screenshots and saves them direct to a nominated folder...

Hi Michael,
No, I do not think reinstalling any of the utilities would make any difference. You are obviouly capturing the screenshot correctly as you can paste it into your program. What MSTS does is to copy whatever appears on the clipboard into the root directory of MSTS as listed in the Registry.
As this is not happening on your PC, it looks like your registry entry for MSTS is incorrect. You could try running REGEDIT and looking at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft Games\Trainsimulator\1.0 and checking the entries for EXE Path and Path these should both point to the place you expect the screengrabs to be placed.
