juddering
I have Just bought a P.C. just to run MSTS on as my high spec P.C. wont run the sim, I have a geforce 5200 128 mb graphics card, 512 ram but only a athlon 1500 which is about 1.12 ghz, when I am trying to run MSTS it is really juddering, is the processor to small, whats the optimum processor size for it to run smoothly, if need be I will put a new motherboard and bigger chip in but does anybody have any suggestions as to the size.

Hi
Depends on what this "juddering" is.?
If its the stuttering mentioned on these forums quite often ....caused by msts struggling to load a "heavy" tile then
You could do with some more RAM.......disable the Win swapfile.
Make sure you defrag your HD after installing a route...and get the fastest HD possible....but not too big (40Mb is ideal)
Only load one route at a time.
However if its the pulsing caused by the rain....I dont think anyone has cured this.
Cheers
Jon

Hi All
If anyone gets no "Juddering or Stuttering" on LSE please let me know what spec PC you have and what settings you use.
I believe LSE is the most demanding Route yet produced for MSTS but don't get me wrong because it is an excellent Route with very intricate 3 rail trackwork and plenty of populated scenery.
Kindest Regards
Mike

Hi
The difference between LSE and TM...is UKFS track....which hits the frames a little.
I also have the NVR....but on this there is more countryside.
The new American Scalerail...seems to get away from the frame hits...it will be interesting in a couple of months as there are a couple of large French routes to be released which have been built in UKFS.
Cheers

Hi,
No stuttering, PIV, 2.8Mz chip, 1Gig RAM, Radeon 9800 SE graphics card, 120Gig HD not defragged for ages, everything on max, just tried the new Whitefish 4, FPS solid +20 and usually +30 for most of the route, all taken from cab view on default Dash 9, but pretty simular outside, varies between 20 and 40 FPS.
Odd stuttering when a large tile loads and a crash when l kep my hand on the horn at a crossing...sound related..need to turn that down a bit but otherwise just dandy.
Not tried the scale rail patch either, will do later and see what FPS l loose, if any.
Best regards
Michael

If it judders all the time, i.e. not just when loading the next tile, try turning the World Object Density down a couple of notches to remove some of the detail. I would say that the processor is the problem in your case, rather than the RAM, but that's just my opinion.
Unfortunately, many developers tend to use the latest computers for route building and don't appreciate the trouble they cause for those with lesser machines. I deliberately use my 4 year old P4 1.7GHz machine running Win 98 for all route building and testing. I do however, write my activities on my new computer - 60 FPS on Swanage!
