Has anyone else seen this news release? Trouble is, I cannot remember where I saw it!
New Sensation for Microsoft Train Simulator

The latest train simming news is that a major producer of control hardware for Microsoft Train Simulator is about to release a new product, SmellDriver. Apparently SmellDriver will connect to a USB port and provide smells synchronized with what is happening on the route being driven. New entries in the sound files will trigger SmellDriver to release small spays of "odour" from rechargeable cylinders which are housed in the unit. Just think of the possibilities. Smell the diesel engine or the steam escaping from a steam locomotive. Smell the contents of the wagons making up the train. The possibilities are limitless! No information is available yet on the cost.
I wonder if this is a reality. Imagine having the wonderful smells of steam locomotives issuing forth from your PC. But then we would also have to smell diesel locos! And what about the wagons? Coal, cement and all sorts of chemicals. And of course there a cattle trucks, fish trains and garbage carriers! It will certainly add extra interest to running MSTS. I guess that we will need a new UKTS forum, "MSTS Smells".

Could have been fun driving past Farmer Dai's pig farm too!

Seriously outside of holographic or VR graphics I believe some sort of smell emitter has at least been thought about as the next step for the entertainment industry. Not sure I'd want to watch Saving Private Ryan or similar in smellyvision though!

Damn.

I'll have to withdraw all my fish vans and cattle wagons.

Nobody will want them now.

Recipe for Smelldriver:

Take one lump of coal and grind into powder. Sieve and place in bowl.

Add half a pint of diesel oil and stir gently.

Fill bowl with pasta to enable slow release.

Leave overnight in fridge.

Boot up MSTS and serve.

Add salt and pepper to taste.

Co-ordination is crucial and amounts will vary from person to person but the effects will last for several days or until the carpet is cleaned.

Warning!

Too much salt is bad for you.
