YCR Act. "Diverted York/Scarborough Express & Smoke
Hi All
I thought this old carrot had been fixed but apparently not!!
I just saved the Activity and when I went to restart got the message:-
BR20TBrake02_Smoke\BR20TBrake02_Smoke.wag - error reading data base
I checked my Folder and I believe I have the latest download but just to make sure I put the Folder for this brake van from the YCR CD into my Trainset Folder and got exactly the same message.
Has anyone else tried to save this Activity successfully??
Is there a fix for these Smoking Brake Vans as I could not find a definitive answer searching the Forum.
Kindest Regards
Mike

Don't know if this helps but I used to get the same thing when saving an act that used a smoking caboose in a consist. The only thing I could see was that I'd stored the smoking caboose WAG file in train store, whilst the ENG file was unstored, as it was in a consist. So I put the WAG file (viz:unsmoking caboose) into another consist on that particular route and the saved act could then be resumed. I don't know why this happened but now the WAG file is also in the route all appears to be well.
Regards, Nick.

ID 11501 for the Thames-Mersey route has revised files for the brake vans which it is said cures the problem. It mighht bw worth tryiong this fix and see if it works for YCR
Tony (the old one)
I am fairly sure this problem occurs because :-
When MSTS loads an Activity, it uses the file name in the .ACT or .CON file to open the file and load the parameters.
When it saves an Activity however it doesn't store the file name as such. In its lists it stores the 'filename' (minus its extension) from the Wagon parameter.
This can give rise to problems when you have two wagons with different file names, but the same Wagon parameter contents, or two files which have the same Wagon parameter, but one is a .ENG file and the other is a .WAG file.
In both cases MSTS can get confused when a saved Activity is reloaded as MSTS will only attempt to find the file based upon the 'filename' from the internal list.
If you have both items present, MSTS can just use the wrong item (perhaps the van doesn't smoke, when it should). If you only have one item present, then MSTS can report the one it wants as missing, because it is looking for the wrong item.
This is just one error which can be caused by incorrect combinations of Wagon, or Engine parameters and their actual file names.
ConBuilder will report on most of these.

Use 'check all activities'... left click and right click on errors and you get options to replace items..been doing it for months.
When I try it clicking on an .eng file it will only bring up a list of other .eng files.
I've never seen it listing .wag files.
Probably me doing it wrong.

Ian,
If you click on an engine it brings up engines...click on wagons/carriages it brings up wagons... click on consists and it brings up consists...
on the principle that you replace like with like..
For the static consists you get to change the individual items...but it will replace ALL the engine/wagon with the same name in all the static consists of that activity..
Once you've done it a couple of times it is very easy..

Hi David
The YCR CD has Code Engine and the one in my Trainset Folder had Freight but unfortunately they both would not save.
I changed the Consist to put the Non Smoking Brake Van in and everything Saves OK now.
On a seperate issue I am stuck in Filey station at a red signal waiting for a passenger train in front to move - I have been waiting 15 mins and will be late at Scarborough!! Tried the MSTS shuffle and that made no difference.
Anyone completed this Activity yet?
Kindest Regards
Mike

So that is not the problem with the smoking brake van. There was also a problem with brackets. The current download version has this corrected (I did the correction!).Iluka wrote:Hi David

Yes, I could save it.Iluka wrote:Hi David
Did you manage to Save the Activity with your latest modified Smoking Brake Vans??
If so can you give me the UKTS File Number and I will replace my existing ones and try the Activity again with those in and see if I can Save.
Kindest Regards
Mike

Hi David
The plot thickens!!
I downloaded File 5743 and it is exactly the same as I have in my Trainset Folder - I read the readme and there is no mention of any mods since it was first uploaded.
The eng.file reads:-
Wagon
Type (Freight)
Engine (BR20TBrake01_Smoke
Wagon (BR20TBrake01_Smoke)
Type (Diesel)
I have searched again on the Forums and the Library and cannot find any Smoking Brake Vans with Type (Engine)
Hope you can help me out (you know my email address) David.
Kindest Regards
Mike
