Still don't understand with these errors??

Post by ImCanadian »

For more than two and a half years of using the program of Microsoft Train Simulator and I still don't understand with these errors and fix or correct the problems even use with the program of Conbuilder.

Here is the example that I just recently download the activity for Maple Leaf Tracks Southern Pacific Cascade Crossing route from the file library. The zip file is MSTS Activity -- Modern UP And Amtrak created by Bob Pickering recently. The filename is ccupp.zip Now what I did with the file to unzip?? I always unzip all files to a temporary folder then move the folder to the program of Microsoft Train Simulatorwhere it suppose to go. Here is the example that I have to download the file = htbaga41.zip that required to run the activity. After unzip the file and move the folder to MsTS in Trainset Folder and I clicked the icon, Train Simulator on desktop to startup the program then got the error message on the monitor screen. Look at below:

Error: continue?

Error reaading train database file

File: Trains\Trainset\HTBaggage\HtBagA41.wag

Now I am not sure what is the problem that something to do with a wag file?? Is the wag file missing in this folder of HTBaggage in Trainset Folder. And I did checked through Windows Explorer to see if the wag file is missing but it's there. Now what next do I have to look for to solve the problem with the error of wag file?? I did ran the program of Conbuilder to see any errors and did not show me any. It frustrated me all the time with these errors and most of the time I just have to delete the activity and the required files in Trainset Folder to save my time from wasting my time to look for errors. Can someone explain to me how to fix the problem like one above or solve the problem??

Thankyou for your patience

Are you sure HtBagA41.wag is in the Trainset folder inside a folder called HTBaggage?

I just downloaded the zip file from train-sim.com and when you unzip it, it doesn't go into a folder at all. Chances are all of the 9 individual files, including HtBagA41.wag are in you Trainset folder.

I am sure that the name of this folder is called HTBaggage in Trainset Folder in TRAINS of MsTS but what I did is to unzip the file into a temporary folder that did created a folder with that name then I move the folder from temporary folder to Trainset Folder in MsTS program through Windows Explorer. Also I did look at these files to see if any are missing because all files ususally have to have is wag, .s, .sd, and ace files. So if all these files are there and why is the wag file missing even already in the Trainset Folder of HTBaggage?? Now that is what I am talking about with the errors when I click the icon of MsTS to startup the program?? I just want to know how to fix the problem with the wag file or eng file or some other files??

Thankyou again

Hi
On startup msts checks all installed activities...agaisnt installed stock...it then reports any it can't find...or CAN'T READ.
Unfortunately there is only the one message...this can create confusion.
It does this so hopefully you won't select an activity and then crash....(as we know this isn't the case).
If the wag file is there...I would suggest that there is an error within the file which is stopping MSTS reading it.
Conbuilder doesn't check the whole file....and an extra bracket or typo will have crept in.
As there are 9 files in this directory I would ...delete the original....copy one of the others...and re name it to what you need
Cheers

Where did you get htbaga41.zip? I just got it from train-sim.com and it doesn't unzip into an HTBaggage folder. I created one and made up a consist and everything worked okay.

Have you used it in a consist?

Check the spelling of the folder name very carefully.

Sorry, that's all I can think of.

Here is what you can do, open the consist in conbuilder and delete the car from the consist. Then from the choose stock window, put it BACK in. I have done this before with stock and it has cleared the problem up. Also run a check and see if it is an loose consist.

As an alternative, use the check activity button in Route riter. If it sees an error, it will higlight it. I double check at times, esp. when CB doesn't see and error and I still get one on startup.

Hi and low characters ARE important in MSTS Folders, ie if so and so for example says

AbCC01x\AbCC01x.wag is recogniseable

abcc01x\AbCC01x.wag isnt

it stupid but thats my theory
