Paddington to Penzance Version 2.4

Paddington to Penzance Version 2.4
I have uploaded Version 2.4 which should be applied in the usual way. The following is the from the installation notes contained in the patch:
###############################################
This .zip file will patch Version GWR23 to GWR24. This patch implements track changes just west of Slough. Consequently, user-written activities running on tracks in those areas will fail on "Invalid Path" and will need to be fixed. Also implemented are sound regions over the entire mainline.
********************************************************************************************************************
TRACK LAYOUT IS FROZEN AS OF THIS RELEASE
*********************************************************************************************************************
Changes:
1. Slough-Windsor branch. Cut overs added west of Slough and stubs layed.
2. Track sound regions have been added throughout the mainline portion of the route. These sound regions are optimised for the Railwaves.com product - Enhanced Track Audio. If you have this product, then install it in GWR after this patch. If you do not have this product, then you will hear the standard MSTS supplied sounds.
Note. There is a review available of Enhanced Track Audio - see UKTS home page, left hand column
3. Misc. cosmetic changes.
Note that after conversion, the original version will NO LONGER be available on your system, so it is recommended that you make a copy in case the update has to be repeated.
Note1: This patch can only be applied to GWR Version 2.3
Note2: Make a back up copy of your current GWR folder before you start
Note3: If you have modified GWR in any way (except for Activities) then
the results of applying the patch are unpredictable.
Note4: The folder name must be GWR. After the update, the version number can be seen on the MSTS Route selection screen (see the screenshot that accompanied this update). If it doesnt say "Version 2.4", the update was not successful.
Instructions:
1. Unzip GWR24_Patch.zip into the ROUTES folder
2. In the ROUTES folder, open GWR24_Patch
3. Find updateme.bat (the last file) and double click on it.
4. Delete GWR24_Patch after the patch has been succesfully applied.
###############################################
NOTE: The actual sounds you hear through your loudspeakers will be affected by the rolling stock you are using and possibly, the settings for your sound card.

I am rather disappointed that having purchased the Cd, admittedly at a ridiculously low cost, I have to face over 1 hour of downloading to get the patch.

If you feel that strongly about a route that Derick Joy and Dave Pascoe have put an awful lot of work into and have ALWAYS said it is an on going process and therefore there will be a lot of updates, then I will send you a cheque for £4.50 and the cost of posting it to me. Please pm me with your name and address with an estimate of postage charge and a cheque will be in the post soonest.

i am disappointed, but that does not mean that I am in any way disparaging of the genii who make these routes. On more than a few occasions I have made this point myself in othe forum entries .
As I said, I believe that the cost of the CD is ridiculously low for the effort that has gone into it.
I suffer from depressingly low download speeds and this oes not help.
Further to this subject, does the patch apply directly to my CD version or do I have to insert a previous patch? My CD is labelled Paddington 2 Penzance, but I cannot see whether it is just v.2 or some later upgrade

If you would care to look at the information page in the 2.4 download file on UKTS, it will show you where the version number comes up during the MSTS program start up. You do not have to download the file to find this info
Also if you are brave enough you can open the GWR.trk file in the main GWR section of the MSTS/Route folder with Wordpad and near the top of the file you will see "Description" followed by the version number.
The 2.4 patch is not cumaltive. If you have the absolute latest CD then it should incorporate up to the 2.3 patch as I understand it. Unfortunately if you have the original version 2 CD then you must have installed the previous patches before putting 2.4 on.

I've just discovered GetRight which is a free download, takes a few mins, and helps those with really slow speeds download big files because it will carry on from where it left off should your computer be disconnected for what ever reason. I can't give u the www now because I'm on the wrong computer. But let me know here if you need it. I think I got it from Steam4Me the Australian site.
Try
http://www.getright.com/
for Getright. I have used it for some time, even before going on to Broadband, and it's worth paying for the full version.

Re Dissaitisfaction of Tony Smedley
Having been laid low with the 'flu for a few days I have only just got back to looking at the forums and would like to comment on Tonys "dissatisfaction" earlier.
I quite understand and can fully sympathise with the inconvenience of long patch downloads--- but surely the critical question here is---would you rather have a route that the developers issue on CD and then abandon so that any occasional flaws, omissions etc remain and additionally where there is no ongoing development and upgrading in response to user suggestions or wishes -----or, alternatively choosing to spend an hour occasionally downloading a patch and getting the benefits of any minor flaw removals and upgrading and improvement of the route.
The GWR team have produced a long and well constructed route with excellent opportunities for long distance passenger traffic as well as local services both passenger and freight (especially re the Cornish china clay industry) . Responsiveness to user suggestions for particular models and developments with patches was built in to the policy of the team ---and I know, from personal experience, how responsive and helpful the whole team is to user suggestions for enhancements.
The result has been a living and continually enhanced route rather than a "take it or leave it" offering.
So ,Tony, is it not better to put up with some patching hours and get a better and enhanced route to enjoy than to accept a static product and whatever flaws or problems happen to exist initially ?
Cheers and best wishes

First of all, thank you once more for all those who take the trouble to help other MSTS addicts!
Having looked at all the advice, I have concluded that I have only the original v.2 In the .trk file it is described only as Route ID ( GWR )
I use DAP download accelerator, which I prefer to Getright, which I have also used, but even with these downloading can be excruciatingly long, and any other internet activity is also slowed down whilst downloading.
The quality of the telephone connection also has a bearing. But I cannot justify the cost of broadband for my usage.
Driving the GWR route brings back many happy memories of the Looe branch ( in steam days and before the track was shortened at Looe ) and the delightful Calstock branch ( which isn't yet in the MSTS route - but it was SR and not GWR ) which I recall when the steam worked wagon lift down to the quay was still there. And getting down to devon on the old "Devonian" sometimes with three bankers on the return up Lickey!
Now I really must get down to copying those earlier patches - better still, get another CD - at that price I can't go wrong.
