Route Riter problem

Post by seaeagle »

Can any of you decent chaps out there sort this problem I'm having with Route Riter out? When I check a route, as soon as RR finds an object there is a problem with, I get a dialog box pop up with "Windows Error #429 ActiveX component can't create object". I have downloaded and installed the MS Framework & the Java Runtime. Running XP Pro with SP2.
Also I can't get the RR help up either, just get a message, "Cannot open the file: mk:@MSITStore:D:\Program Files\Route_Riter\route_riter.chm.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Hello. I have the same problem with .chm files too, and I'm also running XP SP2.

Sorry I cannot help you.

Best wishes, Bob.

Try downloading the update pack for the version of Office that's on your machine. I've Office XP on mine, and once I'd downloaded the update both the help and Route Riter worked fine.

I can only offer the same advice as the previous posters - make sure you have the latest updates from Microsoft and the latest drivers for your graphics card ?

Are you sure you have the latest JAVA runtime ? http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
Kindest regards

Hi Seagle,

Couple of different errors here. Error 429 occurs if .Net framework is not installed correctly.

This is probably caused by your not having Microsoft .Net Framework v1.1 installed.

Following is a response I sent to someone else recently with the same problem, it fixed his, so hopefully will fix yours:-

This is caused when the .dll required to compress/uncompress files is not installed properly.

1. Make sure that you have Microsoft .Net Framework v1.1 installed (go Control Panel/Add Remove programs to see if it is listed).
2. Make sure that TK.MSTS.Tokens.dll and .tlb are both in the Route-Riter folder along with regasm.exe and InitTokens.bat
3. Click on InitTokens.bat – this should take up to 5-10 mins to uninstall the old tokens, Then hit any key and it will install the new ones.
4. This should then tell you the tokens are installed, after which RR should run OK.

The Microsoft .Net framework is obtainable from the Microsoft update site.

I do not know why you are getting that error for the help file, especially under Windows XP - Try going to the Route_Riter folder in Windows Explorer and click on the Route_Riter.chm file - That should open it OK, do you have problems with any other .chm files?

Mike,
I also have the same problems as above. (error 429 and problem with the RR help file)

Have tried as you suggested to no avail. Altough InitTokens.bat only takes a few seconds to uninstall old tokens. Have had previous versions of RR installed without problems.

Recently moved MSTS to another drive. Could this have something to do with it? Route Riter installed on C and MSTS installed on E.

Best Regards,
Phil Edwards

Hi Mike,

Thanks for your reply. When I first had problems, I re-installed everything, MS Net Framework 1.1, Java and RR to no avail. I also checked the .dll's and re-certified them, still RR didn't work. As I mentioned in my post above, once I downloaded the office update, both RR and the help files worked fine. I assume a .chm file is something to do with office? (The help file didn't work from the RR folder either). Many thanks for your help and a great product.
Cheers

.chm files are the native help system in Windows XP, whereas the older .hlp files were the ones used in Windows 98. So if you can read any help files under XP, you should be able to read the Route_Riter.chm file.

As you were able to read the .chm file after installing the Office update, I can only think that you originally had Windows 98 and updated to XP and that one of the system files did not get updated in the changeover.

For Phil -

Does Microsoft .Net Framework v1.1 appear in your Control Panel 'Add\Remove programs' list?

Windows XP with service pack 2 was a clean install on a brand new hard drive. On my previous system with XP without the service pack's, RR worked fine and I didn't download the office update. Is there something with .chm files and service pack 2?

Mike, yes it does. Downloaded the latest update from Microsoft yesterday and no longer have the "Error 429"

However, still cannot open the Help file.

Hi Phil,

Someone else was complaining about the inability to open Help files on another site today (not RR help, but another program), however the suggestion there was to re-register the help .ocx and this apparently worked.

Go to the Start/Run box and enter

regsvr32 hhctrl.ocx

then click OK and see if that works.

That has done the trick, Mike. All now fully functional.

Many Thanks and a Happy New Year!
