Fuzzy Track Textures

Hi
I wonder can anybody help with this problem that I have just noticed!
I have just changed my Graphics Card from a Geforce 4 4600TI to a Geforce 4 6800FX Card.
I have the latest Nvidia Drivers installed, but the Track Texture is really fuzzy and shimmers about, other textures do the same but not as bad as the Track, it also hurts your eyes to look at it after a while!
I have tried messing about with the sliders in MSTS and in the Graphics Card settings. Perhaps somebody can shed some light on this and share their settings with me.
System Win XP Pro SP2
Athlon 2400 XP
1.5 Gigs Ram DDR 333 Speed
MSTS Screen 1024x768
Thanks and A Merry Xmas to everyone in advance
Gary.......

Hi Gary,
Ditto !!
We have all got the same problem, my system is a 3.4 AMD 64 Bit PC, and the image quality, Frame rates and mip mapping quality are all terrible.
The problem is Nvidia are not hearing enough complaints about this, because all of these issues can be resolved by driver updates
So please complain at Nvidia.com !
So they can make these improvements. The 66.93 drivers are marginally better, but still appalling !
Best Wishes for a happy Christmas,
Chris

Hi Gary,
It wont make any difference what type of track you are using until NVidia get lots of complaints about these problems they wont address them, in the new drivers. So Please complain to
http://www.nvidia.com so they can do somthing about it.
Check out the problems with FS9 at visualflight.co.uk and avsim.com and flighsim.com with the Geforce 6800 Ultra
Best Wishes,
Chris

LABRADOR2 I think you need to get off your high horse here. From reading the various posts by yourself about nVidia cards, it appears that you are the one who has suffered the problems, and it is not the hardware or the games that are at fault.
Everyone else using nVidia cards has had no problem.
Out of curiousity how much have you guys spent on changing your GFX cards recently, as I seem to think it was all a waste. The difference in hardware between the cards you have both recently changed to, compared to the ones you already had is so insignificant, im surprised even the retailers didnt question why you were making such a small jump from one card to the next.

If you haven't got anything to say on the original thread than butt out.
I asked for help with a problem, LABRADOR2 kindly tried to help with that problem, now I know where the problem lies, with the Drivers!
If anyone is on a High Horse it's you the way you strut around these Forums. Your just a Kid who knows about as much in life just to fill the back of a Postage Stamp.
Changing a Graphics Card is called progress, and has increased the frame rates that I receive in both Trainsim and Flightsim 2004.
In Flightsim 2004 I have not had any problems, with graphics crystal clear.
I think LABRADOR2 is right with what he says the problem lies with the Mip Mapping. It's a shame MSTS didn't include this facility in the options as Flightsim has had this for ages.
Thanks for all the help I have had the thread is now closed!

Have you tried enabling some anisotropic filtering Gary?
Matt.

I noticed that textures within MSTS were blurred a few months ago when I upgraded my PC, having read this post I wonder if my problem is the same?

I've noticed this one too. It seems to involve the way MSTS renders textures with an alpha (transparency) channel .in them. If you remove the alpha channel, the texture quaity improves. SView on the other hand, is a much better programmed peice of software, and can render off the textures "properly". Try pressing CTRL+L in SView to enable low quality textures; this emulates what they'll look like in MSTS.
(Apologies to Mod team, I know it's a bit off topic, but I just solved that problem all by meself, and I'm dead chuffed

)

Is there anyway of solving this at all? I tried Ctrl=l and all that changed was the roof texture so I'm still puzzled............

Matt
I have had the anisotropic filtering set on x8, x16 and Application Controlled and off, but it doesn't seem to make a difference.
Monday I am going to try the Driver Disc that came with the Card, and take it from there as at the momment I am using a Direct Nvidia one.
Matt, you use Flightsim do you find that adjusting the Mip Mapping setting cures this problem of shimmering textures. It's a shame it wasn't included in MSTS, or that the settings tab for the card could include it like anisotropic filtering and anti aliasing!

Before everyone rushes out to batter Nvidia to death, I have similar problems on both my machines with ATI cards.
I have spent ages fiddling with different settings for the cards, to no avail. The problem was first evident after I installed finerail, but I also see very pronounced moire on fences, so I think the problem is general rather than with the finerail textures.
Any solution will be gratefully received

I have also noticed it with some of my model signal boxes that have no Alpha Textures so it seems a general problem to me also.

I get moiring on fences and platforms which I put down to MSTS but the fences probably use trasparancies and platforms are those with textures likely to cause moiring.
Trackwork is normally OK. Seen the OK trackwork for a few feet and then a layer of fuzziness on two commercial routes, one UK and one US. It made them unplayable for me.
Those with more nouse than myself changed the textures to something far better and so it is aviodable.
There's some Trainz finescale track which does the same thing and won't use that either.
Track which causes such effects appears pointless
