Cambrian route

Post by seern1 »

Any feed back on this route from 3d Trainsim? Sounds interesting and I am thinking of ordering it.
Activities are what makes MSTS run

If you have a lower powered computer, its the most wonderful route you can imagine. If you have a high powered computer, and you like stunning scenery in places, and a nice, slow, rural drive, its the one for you. It also has possibly the best 1st generation DMU in MSTS on there. I would suggest get it cheap off http://www.play.com

My cue, as ever, to say this is a brilliant route and the one I play the most.

It is rural and top speeds of 70 mph (possibly 60 mph).

Good points:

Install it and play, no patches required.

High fps. 59 frequently on my PC.

Stock is good although possibly a little limited for some. I can only drive one train at a time though :)

Activities are challenging and if you fire the steam loco's as well, they're very chellenging.

I'd imagine it can be picked up as a bargain now.

Not so good points:

It's very hazy in the time period portrayed but that makes it excellent for running more variety.

Perhaps not for the purist but I'm not a purist.

All in all, well worth it .... if you want to drive something challenging and not bothered about loads of AI trains although there's enough to maintain interest :)

Forgot to say there's an add-pack available free from 3DTS with more ativities although the default ones will keep anyone occupied for a long while :)

This is UK MSTS scenery, over a long route, at it's best and has never been surpassed, in my honest opinion.

Yep, love the route, and like John Dibben, it's the one I play the most...

Just a thought, did 3DTS ever get round to releasing a patch for the leaky steamer?

It might be in the add-pack but I don't know.

I return the brake to running at 99% and it appears OK though :)

Done that and opened the blower and dampers, but it's still very inefficient :)

Yes yes! BUY IT!
It is a very nice route, very English, even though its in Wales, lol, but I think someone knows what i mean, like the colours are very green and, pleasant. A lot of other routes i have/sampled, they seem very fake :?

I close the blowers and dampers immediately to control the fire temperature. Then as it creeps towards 1000 degrees, I bung more coal in to keep the temperature down.

Steams like a good 'un :)

LOL... what's the ideal fire temperature and mass then?

I always wanted a realistic DMU 101 cabview and Cambrian Coast surpassed all my expectations, beautiful route, beautiful sounds, beautiful countryside.

P.s. it's nice when route authors take the time to put sound regions in and features such as whistle signs, makes the game so much more realistic.

Well .... I keep it below 1000 degrees or the plugs fuse on many loco's.

The mass creeps up up but give it plenty of welly and it soon goes down again :)

The hardest work appears to be leaving Towyn on the Machynlleth Freight Activity 2 before reaching Barmouth and driving it that way will get you over the top with steam to spare.

GWR engines .... even when leaky .... they still perform well :)
