good freeware routes?

Post by maxhall »

Hiya
Been interested in train sim for ages now and have tried out some really good freeware routes, I.E "Woodhead" (which is amazing) and "Scottish central" which is a real buzz, except for my old slow laptop! (need a upgrade) ;) and even bought "severn Valley" from e-bay but got ripped off! booo so will be getting that again when more money in the pot after christmas.. .
Anyhow, can anyone please recommend any other good freeware routes? that are available for the trainsim? LOve playing new routes.?

All the best for christmas, thankx for your help. .
Max.

Any of the routes on CD from the CD Ordering section of the main UKTS page are well worth getting at £4.50 each. And they all come with activities and the relevent stock. A lot easier than downloading shed-loads of stuff for weeks and trying to get it working.

But if you must download, then Thames-Mersey is excellent.

Pat Dalton's Skipton and Carlisle is my Favourite, a superb route and stock package.

Of course, for £15 there's the awesome ELR CD, which has the best stock, cabs and sounds anywhere, as well as the East Lancs Railway realised in glorious UK Fine Scale track. And the proceeds all go towards getting the last Metro-Vick Co-Bo running again.

A bargain just for the cabs even though I say it myself...

  What? Err... Well yes, I did have a big hand in it, by making the diesel cabviews...

But it's still an excellent buy.

Big Vern's compilation pack is worth every penny, too. Cannock Chase is atmospherically nostalgic.

And take a look at some of the downloadable routes from here; Thaxted, and Southwold, while small, are beautifully made and interesting. Woodhead is wide ranging, and challenging driving in places.

Thaxted...Well done Barry, I'd not thought of that excellent route.

How about Blackpool tramway? Or the New York Subway? Both available here too.

Or if you like American diesel stuff, then you must get and install the PO&N v9. And at only around 10MB for the full download, it's an easy route to get.

Make sure you read the signalling texts though as you'll get the most pleasure that way.

As if I'd neglect Thaxted, Gary - right in the heart of Royal Blue territory.... :D

And one of these days, I'll get around to the PO&N, too - thanks for the reminder.

All of them, really. You've just found the right place!!!

What sort of style of route do you like?

For commercial routes play.com always seems to be good. Stay clear of e-bay.
