Speed up utility

Post by NickG »

There is a speed up utility on the Blue sky interactive (Protrain) site.
The claim is it will increase frame rates.
Has anyone tried this?

Running this through babelfish

I think reveals that they've done some work with the standard rail shapes and LODS to make them more efficient.

Just installed this. All it appears to have done is replace the default straight track section shape files for 1, 2, 3 and 4 track for 50m, 100m, 250m and 500m lengths.

Beware, backup your Global\Shapes folder first because it overwrites the default track shapes, so if you want to get the old ones back you will have to reinstall. When I get hold of a default set of track files I will compare polys.

speed up

Post by lemberg »

Hi I've tried it and I got less FPS than using Scotrax which itself acually increased FPS from the default track, basically it looks like scotrax but with the pandrols missing.

But isnt Scotrax just a texture?? so theres not really much point in comparing. A texture against a model....lol

That's very naughty, someone ought to write to them and ask that backups of the default track pieces their utility modifies be included in the download so users can reset their global shape files.

Did that come out as intended ?

It reads as if that you got a performance increase with Scotrax and a decrease with the new shapes.
That (unless the scotrax texture was huge or something) is a bit arse about face I would have thought.

I would expect scotrax to be performance neutral.
