It was built on a 2.5 MHz PC with 1GB of RAM and GeForce 4, but runs very well on my 1700 Hz, 512Mb, GeForce 2 PC (I wrote some of the activities on this). If your spec is lower than this, it will still run fine, but you'll need to turn the graphics settings down a bit in the MSTS "options".
The detail levels have been carefully assigned so that people with good computers will see all of the people, animals, clutter etc., while people with older computers can still run the basic route (including buildings and trees) at reasonably high frame rates. Try adjusting the World Object Density setting to find the best setting for you. The rolling stock and route objects have also been built with a view to improving performance. In particular, they all have LODs that give you great detail close up, but only the basic shape from a distance. Low poly carriages are available for use in sidings and on AI trains.
In summary, you don't need a top spec PC to run this route, but you might have to miss out on some of the detail.
