If that was a commercially produced video you were watching, it's a pound to a penny that the original footage was silent & the studio dubbed the Rat sound onto the video for effect.

GK

As has been said before in this thread, you won't be far off the mark if you set the sounds for 10201/2 to class 50 and class 40 for 10203.

I don't see how a flat 6 can sound anything like a V16 myself...

The Napier Turbochargers were fitted to the 20s, 40s, 73s and 'Thumper' DEMUs, all of which have a distinctive whistle when idling. 50s, 37s and 31s had different types, and the 56s which basically have an updated version of the 16CSVT (although badged as a Ruston-Paxman) have a updated Napier Turbo, also fitted to the HSTs, which replace the whistle with a squeel. The 58s have the same engine but in 12 Cylinder form. It shows how far the family has come when you conisder that they produce around 1500hp more than the 12 cylinder engines in the 37s, that themselves were more powerful than the 16 cylinder engines in the LMS prototypes. Class 08 shunters also have EE engines, but these are not Turbocharged. Deltics (and Baby Deltics) didn't actually have Turbochargers, but were infact fitted with a form of Supercharger known as a Scavenge Blower that forced air into the engine all the time, a requirement of 2 strokes (since the downward stroke of the cyliner could not be used to draw air in).
