Dunno - I'll ask my sister; when it comes to cooking she makes wonderful pastries, but for the rest she can't boil water without burning it. Maybe she should have had that cookbook of Mark's... :)

I think it was decided that class 50 sounds were the best to use

I though there'd already been nearly three pages of suggestions; that's why the thread drifted off-topic

Don't tell me you've never heard the old saying "They are such a bad cook they can burn water"?

Why not look on page 1 of the thread where:
baily9531 wrote:class 40 sounds would prob suit it best, not sure on a cabview tho.
rwaceyw wrote:I wouldn't think it would whistle that much Chris...I personally use the Class 50 sounds that come with DP2...?

greenknight wrote:My suggestion for a cabview would be something like a Class 20 running cab first as the outward appearance is somewhat similar i.e. 2 not so large squarish windows well spaced apart. Not sure about the cab layout as I never saw 10201/2/3 in any great detail.

As for sounds, it would be have to be class 50 for 10201/2 but Class 40 for 10203.
On Page 3 a link was posted to another thread on the same topic

I downloaded the prototype SR Diesels and wanted differnt sounds.

Which sound pacls on ukts would go best with this model and is there a cabview that could be used with this model

I'd really like to know the answer.
Well I'd still say....

So I'd say the subject has been well and truly answered, there's no-one around who remembers hearing the real things, so there's some difference of opinion as to whether they whistled like a 40 or not (10203 excepted as that had the same engine as a 40), so take your choice.

We'll carry on going off topic now we've shown it's been answered.

I thought someone had in 275 on Saturday - god's trousers it was cold!

Apologies but just thought of something on-topic to say: I've got a video clip somewhere of 10203 and can confirm that it does sound just like a '40 - however, I gather the other 2 had different turbos so may have sounded different.

I know, why not use the default Dash 9 sounds - they're so convincing and atmospheric...

Apparently the South Australian Railways 900 class had the 1750hp 16SVT and date from 1951, which sounds like it's the same engine - anyone got a recording of one? They last worked in 1985 but several are preserved.

Good point, Mark. Haven't (sadly) seen/heard one running, though an uncle of mine in Adelaide is well into rail preservation - trouble is, he won't have heard a class 40 so won't be able to confirm whether they sound alike (as I've heard they do)!
