Errors that have plagued us for years

Post by JonathonAG »

Hi all,
On the Swindon & Highworth Branch website(that does some great freeware models), there is a notice saying that Matt and Martin from UKTS have finally managed to fix some errors that have "plagued" us for years so Matt and Martin, if you read this, please can you tellus what the errors are/were and what have you done to solve them as I am anxious, among others who probably are, to see what you two have done to help our lives be easier.
P.S: I hope this includes the problem with rotating a turntable :D

See Route Building forum, there are a few long posts in there by Matt and Martin detailing the problems and a little bit of the history of the project.

regards

Dan

What page/pages may these posts be on as I can't really go through all the pages looking for a couple of posts that I don't even know what their Subject title is :-?

Hi
I think the fixes are more relevent to the Highworth route....than general fixes.
The good news is that this does mean this brilliant...long awaited...route will soon be available for all. :P

It was all to do with the Highworth route files - tdb, rit, tit, etc which my clumsy manual editing had messed up. Matt managed to fix these with some minor input from me. The fixes are all just applicable to the Highworth Branch route, not MSTS generally.

Route's now finished, I'm adding to and adjusting the stock folders and reworking one set of activities. Matt will then do a check of all the stock and then it's off to the activity writer to write the last activities.

Expect a release before Christmas. This year :)

Also some fixes were made to stock to fix front coupler problems, I think the only new thing we added to the current pool of knowledge is that when front coupling to wagons made using TSM they will often send one of their parts in a strange direction such as wheels shooting up a foot or two. The solution requires an edit to the S file to remove an unnecessary block at the end. I will try to get a tutorial together at some point detailing all the techniques we've used including summarising those that others have collated on the forums.

Is that just TSM Matt that causes this?

I only ask as it might be relevant for people like me who use gMax. :-?

AFAIK it's TSM only, essentially in non-animated items such as wagons it still adds the whole animation block in at the end of the file and that causes all manner of problems with front coupling. 3DC generated files seem fine, not looked at any GMax ones but its easy enough to check - just decompress a GMax wagon shape file to text, skip to the bottom of it and see if it has a bunch of empty animation sections in it. Animation sections need ONLY be present if the item has specific animation (WHEELS11 etc are not animated by the shape file and would not have an animation section in there).
