On that very positive and welcomed note this thread is now locked.
This thread was started in error using another issue to make a point which almost everyone has rejected after seeming endless discussion. The other dispute has now probably been made worse although I hope it can be resolved.
Matt's post should've signalled the end of this thread.
It didn't.
Mods left it alone to show what happens when there's no moderation. That's OK for a while but those who pleaded for this thread to be locked will now be very dismayed to see it still here.
I'm of the opinion it is not the best option to get into a discussion about moderation as it leads nowhere when everyone doesn't get their way.
The unqualified support from most members is highly valued and we thank you. The qualified support is food for thought and we will take notice.
However, there is still the notion that mods should make some bid for popularity. Matt made it clear that he valued effectiveness over popularity.
There's no senior mod but I am the oldest active mod and have taken it upon myself to end this thread here as I feel it would be Matt's wishes.
Nastygrams to Matt, as usual. There's always a pile and room for more.
This decision may be reversed and so those who wish to continue the debate may get a chance to so so. I suspect most want to see the back of this thread though.
