This outcome has come about after i had:-rlmathers wrote:This was posted two days ago :
Update, 8th October
Jon does not think an apology is forthcoming, or really necessary but he is satisfied with the action that Matt has taken: phat2003 is banned from uploading further content to the UKTS file library.
Martin
Spent nearly 30minutes wasting my breath explaining to richard what he had done on msn IN PRIVATE
I then basically resigned on UKTS forums explaining what happend
So when i had been PM 'd i thought enough is enough
im not wasting my time with Richard trying to get an apology out of him when he cant seem to see what he has done
Because if he had he would have apologised ages ago
By not having any files allowed and having the probelm aired in public was punishment enough.
So all in all it wasnt the mods that made the descion it was me>
And as for the joke/comment made by JD last night it was more touche' than anything else and was taken in good humour as that was the direction the thread was taking.

If that's what you think then WHY (?) do you need to kick start the whole thread again. The original post was locked, abide by that fact and don't pick up a big wooden spoon just to stir things up again.RedTez wrote:Taking the thread into the private area of the moderator's forums was the best thing they could have done. If the best outcome was not achieved it will be because the 2 parties involved cannot reconcile their positions, a public debate on the matter would not help, but in fact i think it would seriously compound their problems.
I suggest you take it up with the relevant people by PM if you feel that strongly about it.

OK - I haven't weighed in to this thread - because most of the points seem to have been made fairly eloquently by other people.
Main things to remember:
1. Moderation is a necessary evil - not a club for Matt and friends.
2. Moderators are human - and sometimes forget to refresh notices.
3. Even though this forum is not run as a classical democracy, it seems to run ok most of the time - despite the efforts of those who delight in mayhem and ruin.
I think that discussion of the principles of moderation is healthy and to be encouraged. I don't think that complaining in the public arena about they way a particular post was moderated is similarly healthy.
I'm always happy to discuss my moderating decisions by PM or email.
Cheers

Hi ALL
My experience of unions is my experience, you nor any one else will change what happened to me and that is that. Your out burst actually supports exactly what i said, and before you declare me a tory, i originally come from a very labour background but now i, like a lot of folks these days vote for no-one. MY CHOICE.
Have a nice day
Best Regards ALL
lol, and ask YOURSELF, why is that?? LolFinally to the 'erbert who was sneering about trades unions and democracy. Just start thinking for yourself, find out the truth before you speak and stop spouting Daily Mail . based on the seventies. UK Unions are now amongst the most democratic institutions anywhere, having to have member ballots on just about everything, and if they don't, they can be taken to court and have their assets taken from them. All strikes, to be legal, have to be balloted amongst the membership, all leaders, and officers have to be elected, and there have to be periodic membership ballots on political activities and funds. Not even the Tory party, that "bastion of free speech and democracy" has a full membership-only ballot for their leader. All Unions must in law.

Hi ALL
Dear CHAMPY, I stand by all i said and if you cant understand what i am saying, i apologise. Since you dont want me to explain it in pm i assume you dont want me to do it in forum either. As you are aware - we dont know each other, and for your information i dont know the other party either. What that means is i see the situation as extremely sad and negative, as such i wish you both could have resolved this in a BETTER way. Better in the way of not having a member have his uploads blocked. If no-one can see my point then fine, i have said what i said and stand by it.

OK. Two points here -
1. This is not a competition to get the thread locked - althought the irony would not be lost on me.
2. RedTez - we all appreciate your points. However, they add little to the tempo of the debate.

Hi ALL
OK, firstly, i have read and understood the first thread of champy's very well thankyou. Secondly my response is in the main in regard to this thread's topic about the way the site is goverened go READ MY REPLIES VERY CAREFULLY and thirdly i am desperately trying to speak the voice of reason to anyone who will listen with out calling anyone, siding with anyone or patronising anyone.
I read somewhere in the first topic that it is hard to judge the spirit of a thread, so let me explain myself on that score. I am speaking in a kind well considered manner the voice of reason from my point of view, the only one i have. I hope i have opened up the debate started in this topic - i am sorry if it rattles anyones cage but i do not apologise for my responses.
In conclussion i am very happy with the way the site is being run and just wish the GOF's would back off, especially the on noobies.
As ALWAYS
Best Regards ALL
