In 1965 Derby repainted them into two tone green when they passed though the works, but in 1966 started painting them in blue instead

Thanks Jon, thats one more to the list! I may do another one with three locos in it to reduce space. Do you think thats a good idea, or is three a bit many?

Thinking about it, I wonder what else Derby painted in two tone green... I know some class 27's went into that livery, but surely they had all migrated to Scotland by the mid sixties.

i seem to remember 5054 at the east lancs was delivered in two tone green but was quickly repainted into BR lined green. Its just dorned on me now actually that i dont think any 24's carried it in preservation. as it doesnt seem to look right on them. Its probably why the 25's where repainted after a while.

emmmmm, colour schemes are very much a matter of taste, as I for one would love to see a perserved 24 repainted into two tone green, I think it really suited them. I have never seen a pic D5054 in two tone green! I though it went straight from BR blue to plain green when it was preserved

i dont think the 27's were, they are BRCW built which is why the similarlty between them and cromptons. 26's and 27's were first used on Farringdon trains a rare sight nowadays to even see anything like that on the BR lines down there except 319's

yes i must admit like you say it's a personal taste, to be quite honest id always thought since this thread was put up that a 24 "on its own" would look out of place with two tone green but say coupls up to something that matches it would look great.

My personnal tastes go to two tone green 25's not everyone like them but When tamworth castle was repainted for them railtours she did look the part.

A very quick bit of reserch and apparently D5380 was experimently painted in two tone green by Crinklewood depot in 1967. Dosn't appear that any others were.
