[Research] Railwaves Sounds

Post by petermakosch »

Hello :)
For my own research, I want to see how many people have different addons so I know how to create activities (aliasing things). Please vote below. If you dont have any, please state why, OR if you are thinking about buying the Addon(s).
Poll runs for 10 days
Thanks :)

(I know there is the ETA, but that is not needed in what I have planned)

I bought all three as a package (£12.50). Train sounds are great now that I have an improved sound card and I am using them on the Cambrian Coast.
Not so impressed with Sprinter sounds although I have not done that much driving so far. Class 66 sounds installed but not yet tried out.

No offence but i think that £5 for the Sprinter sounds is a rip-off :D. If you really want sprinter sounds for a class 150 or a 153 (scud ) then they are those on the BVE class 150 you could use (with tweaking and permission :)). I admit i did buy the class 66/67 sounds and they are good :). But sadly the sprinter sounds just didn't float my boat i'm afraid :(.

I thought the sprinter sounds were pretty decent actually!!

I have all 3 Railwaves packages, and am pretty happy with what I got.

As for the poll - I understant what Pete is trying to do!. I have downloaded some DMUs that have an option within the installer, as to weather it aliases to the default Kiha sounds, or to the railwaves package.

Hi

£5 for sprinter sounds is NOT a rip-off. Do you understand what is needed to get a sound set as complicated as the Railwaves one? Hours of work, editing the files, scripting the sms files from scratch, getting recording equipment of a high enough quality, buying a train ticket to actually get on one of them, and of course it also help to contribut to running the Railwaves site. Bit of a bargain really isn't it, especially when none of the freeware sound sets come close. If you think modified Kiha sounds will 'do', then clearly you are a strange person

Couldn't agree more Chris. The Railwaves Sprinter sounds capture perfectly the throaty roar of the Cummins engines on a 150/153/156 and are a snip at the price.

The default Kiha sounds are the most ghastly ones in the game.

Prices are all relative....and subjective to your own purse....also depends how much use you then get out of them.
However if you use a complete package such as SVR or Cambrian....or even their own WSR....as a basis....then it can certainly be argued that £5 is a relatively higher cost for just one set of sounds....which I believe is purely a software download as well.
As perviously posted makes the WSR a bit of a bargin ...........but no-where near as a bargin as the ELR will be.

Hi chris. Yes i do know roughly how long it takes to make sounds as i made the class 60 sounds as i was getting bored with the GP38 sounds. Anyways how you know that i use Kiha 31 sounds ? :P. Well i use tweaked BVE sounds from the DMU's and EMU's for my trains in MSTS :D. They are for my own use and i cannot and will NOT release them to the public because i don't have the required permissions/approvals from the BVE authors and i don't steal content from them either .

cheers

However, this post has served its course, and a Mod may wish to lock it :)
