Graphics Card Update
Hi,
Recently visted the Nvidia website for the lastest updates [v61.77]. Now for some reason its totaly screwed up my resoultions.
I have a 17" Widescreen monitor which I had running in 1280 x768. As it asks, after installing the drivers I had to restart my PC. Now 1280x768 is squahed up to the resolution of 1024x768 and i have two large blank sides on my monitor. The onyl resolution ive managed to get it to work in is 1280x1024, which this wasnt designed for so its a little hard to read and not that clear.
I dont knwo what Nvidia have done but they have totally screwed up my graphics card resoultions and now my PC's a wreck!!!
If anyone knows how to help please, I would be very grateful.
Anton

Anton,
Why not simply roll back to the previous driver set?
Windows XP does this through Device Manager (click on the drivers tab for your graphics card).
Or, if you deleted the old drivers, remove current driver and reinstall the older driver either from CD or download.

Well the reason why is that you need to update your graphcis card to cope wth the lastest games. i remember once I didnt do it and one of the newer games wouldnt work properly.

Yes, but MSTS isn't one of the latest games - and sometimes the latest drivers don't like MSTS....Backfoot2002 wrote:Well the reason why is that you need to update your graphcis card to cope wth the lastest games. i remember once I didnt do it and one of the newer games wouldnt work properly.

Anton,
I don't know whether this is connected but... I installed these drivers last Sunday and all of a sudden when I tried to load a game I got the dreaded blue screen crash, then a "Windows Protection Fault" which halted my system and no matter what I did this kept coming back, I wish I'd have tried to reinstall my previous drivers version to save wiping my HD and starting again

You may want to check out some third party utilities which (re) enable some resolutions (particularly widescreen ones), as reference drivers often don't contain them. Sorry, I can't remember the name of these off the top of my head.
You may also want to check out Omega drivers (http://www.omegadrivers.net), these tweaked drivers usually offer slightly better performance than the basic versions and the guy also tends to add in the more unusual resolutions. I use these drivers with an ATi Radeon 9800 hooked up to a widescreen TV and have had excellent results (I had similar issues to you, i.e. losing widescreen resolutions when upgrading drivers). I haven't personally used the Nvidia drivers, but he does ATi and Nvidia, but I have never had any problems with the ATi drivers.

With my not too advanced PC I found that if I advanced the DirectDraw refresh rate beyond a modest level the system would crash, even with a better graphics card,

As MSTS got older and older this was bound to happen eventually. Newer games require up to date drivers and MSTS won't run under these new configurations. It's the price we gamers pay for continually demanding more powerful graphics in our game environments.
If you intend to run MSTS for more than another year or two into the future, you might consider getting a cheap 2nd hand PC, setting it up to run MSTS well and leaving it as a dedicated MSTS machine while you play new games on your up to date rig.

I have the same fx5600 256mb card ..run with Nvidia 61.76 since launch and DirectX 9.0c and haven't had a single problem. The problem must be somewhere else...!!! Have you run MProfile.exe in MSTS??
Get the Power Strip program (do a Google..no URL.!!! sorry) this gives you extra control over your card..used it for months ..no probs....
That's all I can suggest..

Sorry I didnt explain this properly but I never actually had any problems with MSTS, well not that I know of becuase I never tried it. The updates were for some newer games.
Anyhows Ive rolled back the drivers, becuase the new ones didnt made any difference in how I payed my newer games.
Im guessing most people wont have problems with them as the majority of people have 'normal', 15,17,18,19" Inch Monitors, where as mine is a 17" widescreen. I think its actually ndivia whom over looked the problem, as even when I put it in 1280x768 it was treating my monitor as it if were a 17" normal monitor, by blanking out the sides (which makes it widescreen), Sorry If I didnt explain that well.

Hi Anton.
Just a quick thought..... do you have drivers for your monitor installed? When you install new graphics drivers, it will re-detect your monitor, and has a tendancy to install a generic 'Plug & Play Monitor' driver.
I've got the FX5600 Ultra 128mb, using the same drivers. It's actually improved my graphics perfomance quite a bit.
Cheers
Gary
