Hallo!
I've been using this replacement smoke file for some time now, and I'm very pleased with it. I don't know if it is the same as the file on UKTS. You can get it at
http://www.ildeposito.net/ ( Effetti di fumo e vapore per locomotive) or
http://www.railpage.org.au/steam4me/trainsim/index.html (steam smoke replacement).
By the way, you can also change the amount and colour of the smoke by adjusting some values in the .eng-file. For reference you can have a look at Rudolf Richter's wag and eng file manual. (also available at http://www.railpage.org.au/steam4me/trainsim/index.html )

Keep on steamin'!

I've actually got a steam engine to show STEAM, not black smoke all the time, by tweaking files using 'supergoods' eng file calculator

an amazing piece of work.

Just saw the post and I agree the smoke effect file from ( Effetti di fumo e vapore per locomotive) is one of the better ones.

As with everything in the .eng files what you get is not always what it seems to be

The area that governs the changing of black smoke to steam is found in the following settings, first the Scotsman default and then the modified version of the SCOTSMAN Default.

ShovelCoalMass ( 1lb )
SmokeCombustion ( 1 )

SteamSmokeUnitsPerPoundOfFuel( 6.3 )

EngineVariables( 775 1650 3000 160 0.5 35000 11200 350 1 1 )

Modified Version
ShovelCoalMass ( 20lb )

SmokeCombustion ( 23 )
SteamSmokeUnitsPerPoundOfFuel( 3 )
SteamMaxSmokeUnitsReleaseRate( 4 ) Comment (Additional Parameter)

EngineVariables( 775 1650 3000 160 0.5 35000 1 350 1 1 )

Comment (The most important of these is to change the 7th value to 1 from 11200)

My present settings for the steam/smoke effects are as follows based on Terry Thornton's 8F.

the format of these little blocks is as follow:

offset.x offset.y offset.z
normal.x normal.y normal.z
width in metres

where steam / smoke should appear, the direction
it should go and the width of the nozzle

Note that 4 superimposed positions for the stack, strangely the last setting smaller gives more steam while larger gives less steam, no logic but that is what happens.

With these settings I have been able to get steam effects over the full length of a 650 ton coal train.
