Jbilton.

I will do the 50 lines elsewhere rather than take up forum space! First task is to estimate how much download time this will take as i am not a broadband user. Roll on the CD!!

Hi Tony
I know what you mean. ....I set my download manager overnight to get the last 8 files...took 10 hours.
But I already had the other 8 parts.
So 2 overnights should see you right. :P

I've had problems with some paths, I've made a path from Nuneaton - Stafford on the slow but just north of Nuneaton, there is a red light, i've had this problem just north of London as well. I only know this info because of playing the activity in AE. Maybe AE is playing up and the actual thing is fine ?
Off to test.

btw, great route :D
Works fine now. Must be AE playing up.

Alan,

This was done in Office 2000, but I always thought that you could open an office 2000 Excel file in Office 97, obviously not.

Matt, let me know if this problem is resolved when the activity is complete or I will need to get it fixed and into the patch.

MS Office things are usually not backwardly compatible for some reason-its the only use I have found for Works so far- ie resaving things so that they work! A superb route, since my UKTS premium is now gone, I used ts.com to get it, and it is amazing!

I made an activity to explore the docks and local lines (only way to find your way around).
I had the road but it went back to danger at the last minute.

Ian, looks like the interactive might be slap bang in the middle of the switch. I will check it out.

Thames-Mersey Distances

Post by ccsdc »

Richard Gibb reported the following by email, so I thought I would put it out there, with my reply to him to see if anyone can throw any more light on the query.

"Just one more thing please I'm old and confused here, look at picture end of run mileage is stated as 193 Liverpool from Euston
distance monitor in Sim states when leaving Euston Station next stop as 174miles to next Station is there any explanation for this
that you know off?"

Reply:

I tried this out and I get exactly the same. The distances on the next station indicator are automatically calculated by MSTS based on the path, whereas the mileposts have been placed by myself, and are in the correct positions give or take a few yards, so either MSTS is not calculating the distance correctly or the discrepancy between the MSTS world and the real world is causing the difference.

It might explain why people can drive from Euston to Liverpool in less than 2 hours. albeit with a clear road.

I will put this on the UKTS forums to see if anyone can throw any light on the matter.

Well I created an activity player service and got a timetable of an hour less in total than a real VT timetable calling at the same stations!

Adding to what Dave said I should mention this if you look at one
of the time tables I put up the running time to Liverpool was over
4 hours that was for the RED ROSE none stopper. anyway on finding
this and remembering afterward's we had come across this before
in the ECML route by RobT now being redeveloped commercially.

This is what I found If and I am talking using STEAM that if you delete
the MAX VELOCITY line in the eng. file you change the running times
I was getting 2 hrs and 40 min none stop to Liverpool but now with
this line deleted I'm getting over 3 hrs.

Now this makes me think that that line was never meant to be in the
eng.file for steam anyway because steam engines never had
this sort of instruction stamped on the boiler back plate for crews to abide by.
BUT Diesel and Electrics yes to protect their Traction Motors.

So create a activity for steam then come out go back in after
deleting this line and edit and let the clock be recalculated and see what
you come up with........

This may be an error that Kuju did not know anything about and is
a line in there that is not needed will be trying more of this to-day
as the 20 miles difference can play havoc with my water and coal calculations.
No criticism here Dave it's my enthusiasm for getting
these steamers running correctly and you with this route have opened
up new avenues to explore because I 'm running this with a gradient chart and everything is
happening in the right places slowing down
and speeding up.

Don't forget the "timestep" setting in the "default wag" file.

This was discussed two years ago, everything in msts is actually running at higher speeds than shown. So when you think your going from Euston - Liverpool at a mean speed of 70mph , in reality it is probably 80mph.

Lowering the timestep figure helps to rectify this,if i remember rightly ,but plays havoc with your fps performance.

Good Morning,
I've tried to follow all the advice you have given and I have been partially succesful. The routes from Liverpool all work properly but those going in all give a warning that wron platforms are being used and are too far from the track!. It is not spoiling my enjoyment of a terrific programme, many thanks.
Kind regards

peterjay,

I think the paths that are giving you problems are probably the left-overs from the previous versions. One fix is to take everything out of the paths folder, extract the version 3 paths from file 8 of the download and put the ones you want in the paths folder. That should solve the problem.

One problem found partial solution

Post by Kentucky86 »

While designing some modern day activities for this fantastic route I have hit on some problems

1. Signal north of Rugby. I went ahead and re allighned the path

2. The biggest problem I encounter is MSTS's self destructing. I found one soluation.

The problem was happening on my way out of London coming thru Wills/. Jnct. Things would lock up an d stutter than BOOM! MSTS wants to call home.

Well I went ahead and found one cause at least I think I have

I went ahead and found that my orginal activity did fine. It was the save as ones that gave trouble. So I created two more stand alone and things seem to be fine.

Now the problem appears to near Crewe. Approaching Crewe with the Class 87 no problem. With the Class 43 HST V 1.2 (the latest Virgin one) things crawl and self destruct at Crewe. I do not know if this is a texture overload issue (Like on the Northeast Corridor 4.0 with AME-7's) or something else.

This is a fantastic route and I appreciate any ideas or thoughts.

Thanks! From across the sea...

Bob
