Martin, what is the difference between a player service and a traffic service? I create all mine as player services and then simply use the required services in the traffic file.
Dave
Now why didn't I think of that!
Difference was I was trying to create a service by loading the create service screen via the traffic editor rather than the main window.

I have never used that button on the traffic editor, funny how we use the same piece of software in a completely different way. Can I assume that the problem of creating traffic services has gone away now?

Creator of the Thames-Mersey and Dorset Coast routes.
Found another dodgy signal down in Birkenhead Docks.
I made an activity to explore the docks and local lines (only way to find your way around).
I had the road but it went back to danger at the last minute.

Assume so. I haven't tested yet; I'll get back to you on that . Though as it allowed me to create a player service I see no problem with it.

WHAT A PHENOMENAL ROUTE...wow...still playing with it...have not got down the full length yet.
Love the fact you can put the wires up or down and then up again depending on what traction you want to run.
Just taken a pair of 50's for a spin....
A few points though...just to help identify problems...as well as let me customise
Just to let you know there is another speed limit issue leaving Litchfield Trent Valley back on to the main line southbound.
Sticks at 20mph.
I also have problems with trains de-railing at the speed limit northbound at Wembley and Leighton Buzzard and southbound at Litchfield.
One final point...Island platforms, and default platforms...maybe something to look at for later versions..but I like to edit them myself.
Island plats are too far away from the track and some default plats are too high...coming half way up the doors of the coaches.
Not too much bother to change except I can only get five categories in the selector in Route Editor, despite there being loads of categories listed in the .ref file.
Any idea how to get the full choice so I can use the addon platforms I downloaded?
Could I please make a request for users to read the 'readme file' regarding future extensions.

"Version 4 and Future Extensions
-------------------------------
As I have mentioned on the UKTrainsim forums, what is now being released as version 3 should in fact have been version 4, and the extensions listed below released instead as version 3. As the trackwork, and much of
the scenery for version 4 was complete before I changed horses, I have included the full layout in this release. However, I have marked the boundary of version 3/Version 4 by placing siding markers on the track called
"Scenic Blockade" and I have placed either a treeline or a backdrop across the track. You are however welcome to explore the unfinished regions of version 4, but please remember that these areas are very much a work in
progress, and I do not really want any comments or criticism on these areas at this stage.
Wirral Electrified Lines
Birkenhead Docks
Rock Ferry to Helsby/Chester
Northwich to Shotton
Bidston to Shotton"

None of the area designated as V4 has been tested or checked in any way, and it is full of little problems, all of which will be addressed before the release of V4 at some future date.
If you want to explore these unfinished areas, we do not have a problem with that, but please do not cloud the problem reporting issue by identifying problems in these unfinished areas. Dave, will have enough work on his hands, co-ordinating any reported errors in V3 for issue of a future patch.
I trust you will understand why we have to take this approach.

I think that this may be the gammy signal that was reported just north of Rugby - see point 1 of my original post - the track interactive is placed too close to a switch which causes it to malfunction.
Cheers, I wasn't sure if it was the same problem. It's only an issue for the good burghers of Rugby who want to go north. They can catch the replacement bus from the depot opposite until the patch is issued!
I know it's my age, but can someone help an old stager by explaining in simple terms what downloads are invoved in getting mersey rail on to the MSTS system. There seem to be an awful lot of relevant files

Hi Tony
Its very simple really download Merseyside V1 (4 files)....and install
download Merseyside V2 (4 Files)and install
download Merseyside V3 (8 files)and install.
Remove most of the paths ....leaving say 30 odd....remove all the old activities
And enjoy.
Oh and take 50 lines for not having installed Merseyside before.
Very simply, download all of Mersey V1, V2 and V3, as well as all the patches. Its that simple (but please read the readme's, it will make life much easier)

Does the Metropolitan Line from Amersham to Aldgate come into this category as there is a path provided but it only seems to cover the bridge over the WCML at Kenton. Not sure if this is purely for placement when driving the WCML or whether it is intended to include this in future releases.
BTW, congratulations on a superb route. What I have seen of it so far is as good as most commercial routes I have seen. I'm glad of my new broadband connection now.
Can anyone tell me what version of MS Office, ie, Excel will open the xls file on The Thames-Mersey Information. I'm a bit of a dinosaur and have Office 97 which won't open it.
As the topic has been moved here from route building just a note to say thanks to Dave & all others who answered my 'silly' question. I should read the help file in Route Riter I use it enough!
All along the WCML from Crewe down to Euston, there are quite a few cross-country and branch lines which either connect with the WCML in some manner, or simply cross over it. In most cases a short path has been provided so that you can do one of two things; you can run a basic local train along the cross-over lines so that you have a new and different view of the WCML, just for a bit of variety; or you can setup AI traffic to cross over the WCML, or connect with it, as you drive along the WCML If you have no desire to do either of these things, then it simply becomes a scenic object to enhance the authenticity of the route. The Metropolitan at Kenton falls into this category.
At this stage there are << NO >> plans to extend any trackwork south of Crewe. The future V4 will generally be all the Wirral area to the north and west of Chester, and extending across to Northwich and Warrington. Most of the track is already in place in this area, and can be previewed in AE.
To WelshDragon -
The Excel file referred to is in Office XP (2002) format - if you privately e-mail Dave, he may be able to save it in a backwards compatible Excel 97 format and send it to you.
The original Excel file, was mainly a vehicle for Dave and I to exchange developmental information about the route in a convienient list format, but as it proved very useful, we decided to include it with the route as supplementary information for anyone who wanted to read it.
For example, one of the spreadsheet pages is a comprehensive list of all paths in the route, both those included with the route, and those planned for the future V4 area. At this stage I have also identified typical locomotives and rolling stock that could have been used in late LMS/early BR steam days in the passenger services in the route. I have not yet completed the same detail for the goods services, but will probably not do the goods services until V4 is finished at some time in the future.
If anyone else is interested in passenger services, especially the major named expresses, in the file library is my package of LMS Named Express trains. Accompanying the file is an comprehensive 8-page PDF file which outlines ( from four original prototype information sources) the main LMS express trains. This information covers - the typical locomotive types used, the formation of the train, which coach types were used, any separate sections that were attached or detached at principal stations along the route, and departure and arrival times, where known to me. It makes interesting reading in it's own right, even if you do not want to use the train consists included in the kit.
