A bit of 3D silliness

Post by decapod »

Something I knocked up in a few mins.

Select the 3D screensaver download, tscr.zip from http://www31.brinkster.com/decapod/downloadsv.htm

You need to have Shape Viewer 1.3 installed (and MSTS of course)

LOL  That's great!

Spot the Chris as he plays real trains!
Find me on RMweb - mostly 7mm stuff.

Apologies for those that didn't get it to work properly. There was a bit of debugging code left in and the program didn't locate the trainset folder immediately.

This has now been fixed, just re-download and it should work correctly first time now.

Paul

This is superb, and I've just logged on to your site to use Paypal to buy you a drink (Paypal site down, never mind, will try try again later, make sure it's decent beer).

If I could make a couple of minor suggestions please? It would be nice if the minimum number of items displayed could be 1 - the four is a bit messy, and for a laugh I upped the slider to 100 - I think I'm still waiting for it to load! :D

Also, for obvious reasons it loads wagon loads and passviews - is it possible to add a filter to only use .s files over a certain number of polys to get rid of the wagon loads? I suspect it's harder to avoid the passviews, though.

Your talents never cease to impress me!

Thanks for the comments guys,

I even got it wrong again with the last upload (it failed so the original file was still there) - fixed again for a second time...

Min objects now changed to 1

Filtering is not simple, it was just a bit of fun. I still have a few more serious applications to write, including my route object browser/installer which I've been promising for a while.
I was thinking about a trainspotter screensaver - a piece of track and you get to watch random consists driving past. Slightly more complex.

For those programmers out there, the VB6 source code is available on request, it is really simple and uses the TrainLib.OCX from the same download page. The bulk of the code is the registry search for the trainset and the scanning of the folders for S files.

I am still considering expanding into a free model railway sim, but not for a while yet, I've still got a bit more to read up.

Ha! Thats Great!
It's the sort of effect you'd get if you were to blow up the Hornby factory in China :D

Thanks for updating it, Decapod - definately my default screensaver...

I have a VB6 script driven version of something similar (using decapods viewer OCX) that people might like to try if anyone's interested - remember the screenshot of all the trams?

Screensaver

Post by lemberg »

First off I'd like to say what a cracking piece of software the file compressor is, hardley any stutter at all on CC4 unfortunately all I get with the screensver is a big orange splodge.

I fixed the orange splodge just after you posted this... Though if you right click on the file you have and select Configure - use the folder list to locate the TRAINSET directory, not the TRAIN SIMULATOR directory that it defaults to.
