Cambrian Coast 2

Post by XPTE »

A few questions about Cambrian 2. Where will the route be extended to?
Will Cambrian 2 will be a completely new route that retails for say £24.99? Or it just an extension that we can download from the 3Dtrainstuff website? And whenabouts will it be available?

Will it be extended to Shrewsbury? The station signs appear to be in the textures

I think in the main we have been here before. If you read the following thread (the second half of it) most questions will be answered. http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic. ... highlight=

I can answer your question about a possible extension with one simple statement: Yesterday I built the town at Caersws and tidied up the Severn between there and Newtown. :)

Vern left us the track and terrain done all the way to Shrewsbury (it was chopped off the version of the Cambrian that went on sale), but rather than just populate his version of the route, I've put back all of the stations that were closed by Beeching in 1965, plus all of the loops and bits of double track. On the old section, Mike and I have given it a thorough makeover including some new buildings, new loops and sidings, the Ruabon line as far as Dolgellau, a tiny bit of the AfonWen to Caernarfon line plus about 3 miles of the old M&M south from Aberystwyth. This last bit of track gives you a completely different perspective of Aberystwyth (which incidentally has been nuked and rebuilt from scratch).

The route will be a standalone new route available on CD. There is a possibility of offering some sort of discount to people who have the old route, although to be quite honest the new bits on their own are worth £24.99, so I doubt that this will happen.

A few screenshots. No comments on the locos please, as they are early models that will no doubt be improved before release (comment aimed particularly at Saddletank).

Hi Martin

This new Route looks absolutely stunning - I can't wait for the release so I can buy it

I am a little confused though as I have The Cambrian Route from 3DTS and I see that Firelightdesign are advertising Cambrian 2 at 17.99 including a picture of the CD Cover with no mention of 3DTS

I checked the 3DTS site and there is no mention of the Cambrian 2 Route only the new SR Route yet to be released

Who will be the Publisher Martin and when is the anticipated release date??

Kindest Regards

Mike

Oooooh! Drool Dribble. That looks more familiar :)

At last I'll be able to recreate most of a trip I made when I was a lad back in 19** (not giving my age away :D ) from Chester to Pwllheli. Changing at Ruabon and Barmouth.
Great stuff.

Mike

The product that is on sale for £17-99 is the 3DTS Cambrian Coast Route that was built by 3DTS and published by Aerosoft (also sold directly by 3DTS). Cambrian 2 will also be a 3DTS product, although no deal has been reached with any publisher at this point. It isn't on our web site at the moment, because it is very much "work in progress". Having said that, we will be updating our site soon to include an official announcement about Cambrian 2 and other products. Top priority at the moment is naturally the Swanage Route, but I'm trying to keep the other projects ticking over at the same time.

I'm guessing that the route will be out in the Autumn, certainly not before.

As a current owner and impressed user of Cambrian 1. my first question is to enquire whether there will be any point in having both versions.
For example will all the stock and activities of V 1 be included and usable on V2 etc ? I presume this will be the case .

Secondly--will V2 generally include more detailed environments and if so , is it likely to present problems re satisfactory running for less high-end hardware ?

Thanks

My compliments to the development team involved here.
If ever I was tempted to buy my first commercial route this would probably be the one.
These pics evoke the atmosphere I have been looking for in an English route.
Looking forward to further updates.
Cheers

The stock from Cambrian 1 will of course run on Cambrian 2, although I'm certain that Richard has a few improvements planned to the 4575 and DMU. I've already made a new set of dmu sounds, which will be released initially with the class 108 on the Swanage route. Cambrian 2 will of course include lots of new items including Manors and Dukedogs.

The activities won't run on the new route as the trackwork has changed completely. There are many new loops and sidings along the coast and Aberystwyth sections. Of course, this new track means that the scope for new activities is enormous (you should have more opportunity to pass AI traffic too). The biggest change to the track is of course the fact that we are running all the way to Shrewsbury with the possibility of also including the closed line to Oswestry. This includes the famous incline to Talerddig.

There is more detail on this version of the route, but we will set the detail levels of the objects so that people with older machines can turn down the graphics settings and hide the detail without losing the key features of the route. The biggest difference to the appearance of the towns and villages comes from the use of more appropriate architectural styles (no red brick houses north of Tywyn). This gives more of a Welsh feel.

I'll post more screenshots later in the year as the work progresses. If you're not convinced now, you will be by the time the route is released :)

Looks very good, Martin. Both here and in Swanage the structures look much better - presumably you are using more photos for texturing? That corrugated shed roof looks especially good. Only the clunky track lets things down!
