If you have been hacked, you may have to save any info you wish to keep to cd (make sure it is virus free!) and format the hard drive because you copy of windows could be damaged. I have also heard of viruses which reside in the (sh*t I carn't remember the name!!!) part of your hard drive and the only way to get rid of them is to do a low level format. On some hard drives you carn't do a low level, and I dont know what you would do in those instances

I found that installing lots of funky sound improvements (eg steam track sounds, GWR loco sounds) by those nice people like Mr Williams and Mr Ashton caused MSTS to struggle at times. Their readmes do say these enhancements can have this effect if your system spec is not a high one.
As to the jerking, would you describe it as the train 'surging' as it goes by, especially in trackside cam mode? If so, mine has been doing this for months and I have no idea why. I thought it might be a timestep issue in the default.wag file but it does not seem to be.
Sounds like it might also be a virus checker interrogating files as they are accessed, or a HDD that needs a good defrag, and some junk deleting off it

Yes, you would expect the framerate to drop "smoothly" as you overload available memory - but I get this too even with a GeForce FX card. I think the game engine was "optimised" to work smoothly with the default routes but struggles with all the improvements we've got.
