We had 4-6" of snow in Newcastle last night (mostly still there!) - roads of course in chaos (myself I cancelled a weekend away where I'd have had to drive).
Passed through Newcastle station this morning - virtually everything running on time, notwithstanding snow-encrusted units etc.
Pretty bloody impressive (and doubtless unacknowledged) work by railwaymen, I think?
Here's something which won't get into the press...

We had that on the SET commuter lines out of Charing X during the last very cold spell. On the day there was snow everywhere the trains ran on time for the first time in months.
The next day there was little snow left but the trains were late all over the place again.
I give up when it comes to the South east commuter routes!
regards
Dan

We had (from Swansea) the 0648 to London Waterloo, the 0717 to Manchester Oxford Road delayed by at least 60 minutes, with the 0735 to Penzance delayed by 35 minutes on Thursday morning. Services going to West Wales or FGW services to London all left on time though.
The snow made for some interesting pictures though.

Yes, with conditions at their most intense yesterday looked at NR's live departure board facility for Durham (and Dundee by way of comparison), I sure wasn't going out in the snow to look. At both all trains were running perfectly punctually, so credit to all those involved, while the media talks about the poor situation on the roads mysteriously there is no chance for the wrong kind of snow story to be wheeled out. What is especially amusing is that here in Durham our roads are very near capacity due to lack of alternatives, and snow usually causes gridlock
. Meanwhile trains breeze effortlessly past the stranded motorists.
