Hi
Being in Peterborough for the weekend i noticed on the way up, work taking place at Nuneaton station.
Can anyone fill me in on what they are actually doing as, i could only make out that their adding a new platform by the looks of thing but it looks more than just a platform.
Thanks

You are right, they are putting in a new platform for Birmigham to Leicester trains to use after they cross the WCML by the "new" flyover that is being put in. This will prevent Branson having a heart attack at the thought of one off his beloved Pendolino's getting held up by a train crossing over the WCML as they do at the moment.

lol, I know that feeling Chris!
If you go down that line (Nuneaton-Leicester) and look out the left side of the window, you will see they have recently been clearing old tracks all the way up to Leicester. I have posted about this before, but there is a possibility of two reasons:
1) They are clearing it ready for the suppose-ed Freight link with Liverpool (?) and the CTRL that goes through Leicester (Actually would just diverge off before to by-pass Leics, or after, some place nearer Loughborough)
2) They are preparing for a new set of lines, the Freight/Slow Lines south of Leicester, hence a reason to clear out the space in Wigston Junction Triangle, this could also be in prep for a new Station at Leicester designed for the Ivanho Line to Loughborough, with Freight/Slow lines running from South Wigston all the way to Loughborough.
I will try and find the post.

As a very frequent visitor to Nuneaton (I live there...I go to the station in my free periods from college, which is 2 mins way) I can say - all that work is annoying. They're adding a new lift as well, to go with the new platform, and revamping the existing station. There were plans at one point to fit a big roof over it all, like some of the bigger stations, but these were soon junked.
The reason the work annoys me, is that I hear the sound of a diesel engine, I get up and look about, expecting a loco down one of the tracks, and it usually turns out to be a bulldozer or a generator working away behind me, and the echo makes it sound like it's coming from down the rails...

No matter where you go, you can't escape the 'nana.
