I've got a picture of 1 class 31 sat on top of another class 31 in a road, after someone released the brakes on them when they were stood in a nearby yard

if i'm not mistaken, that loco and another 31 both ran through a bufferstop and plunged onto the north circular road in London in around 1987. of course the one behind then landed on top of the other. i can't rememer just how it happened.

That'll be why it has the main impact to the middle of the cab :)

here you go - from the book "Railway Disasters - cause and effect" by Stanley Hall.

The narative (inside back cover) says :

The locomotives that wanted to try out the North Circular Road !
On 28th October 1988 two unmanned Class 31 locos, presumably with brakes not fulled applied, rolled off together along a short siding. After demolishing the buffer stop they ran down the embankment on to the main road, to the horror of passing motorists on the North Circular, although no-one was hurt. The second loco of the pair landed on the roof of the leading one, reamining precariously balanced. Its back broken by the impact, the leader of the adventurous twosome was later cut in two for reomval from the scene of the accident.
Kindest regards
