Anyone here Like this bit of track

Post by stevesherratt »

Hi

Anyone here Like this bit of track :o ?

Its just north of Birmingham New St heading towards Derby under the overpass where the oil tanker train used to be 2 x class 33`s in 70`s ( may be still is ) :D

Awesome stuff behind a Full Thrash Peak or Brush 4 in the cold evening air and the Fishplate joined rails and Echoing overhead Concrete overpass while standing at a door with window down a little !!!

Fantastic :D :D :D !

Hi Steve,

Have worked freight trains into the sidings there (having passed Saltley Depot on the right and then the Washwood Heath plant which was always full of new trains - currently LUL and Virgin Pendolino stock). The sidings are all still there but nowhere near as utilised as they used to be - the 33's you referred to were the Fawley Oil Refinery to Bromford Bridge working). Oh for the hourly Peak worked trains over that route now! The last few times I have been over it were on 158 and 170's....

Hi
Standing at the door....window right down...headout.....grabbing numbers at Saltley. :P
Done it a loads of times 1975-78
Always used to get up the front if poss...just in case someone flushed a toilet.
Paid for it once though...got grit (clagg off a peak?) in my eye...and had to go to hospital to have it scraped out...still got the scar...in the white of my eye luckily..mum wasn't too impressed though.

:D Thanks Dale yes thats the place :D

I was on a train down here in Australia yesterday , Air conditioned , no windows to open and so quiet i could hardly hear a train pass by . :(

Only an old 1970`s UK trainspotter would complain of such discomfort :D

It just made me realise what was missing for todays trainspotters .

Hey Jon i am sure at some time back in the 70`s i would have been racing you down the platform at New St for that front coach right hand side window !

Hey anyone here used to go down to Solihull back in the 70`s to catch the Western hauled train back to New St :D

A Western at full thrash up the New St tunnel now that was rearly something ! :D

Last time I did that bit of line was a Turbostar, so well, its not worth talking about, previous time though was last year behind "Northstar" on a drag to Nuneaton :) . I'd spent the saturday between Nuneaton and Wolverhamton and had already been behind the Green 47, and a Virgin liveried one, aswell as a pair of 57s. Always loved doing that section on HSTs aswell, which I often caught up to Derby when returning to Loughborugh from Birmingham, and once even managed a 47. Not the same now though that its either Central or Voyagers, with me usually going via Coventry with a loco or a 321, both soon to be lost aswell. I can see soon it will be a case of "cool a 156, opening windows!" :)
Have to admit though one of the best was New Street North Tunnel behind a 57, now thats loud, shame my recording is a little ruined by an expleative as the driver shut off power and snatched the coupling causing me to nearly fall over  .
