MSTS 2 - Just A Patch, or The Real Thing?

Post by Backfoot2002 »

Hey all,

I have been scanning the forums looking at MSTS threads that people have posted. I was just thinking, even though no "confirmed" information has been released, what is the actual difference in MSTS 2, apart from the fact that they have added, 5 or 6 new routes?. from teh screenshots the graphics looks a little better i admit, but not to a great deal. Also those screenshots were released before KUJU decided that they didnt want anything to do with it anymore.
I hoping that they have improved certain tools, such as the route editor, as this one on MSTS at the moment is very unstable, and you never quite know when your route will dissapear. Also i was wondering will they fix any of the bugs that were in the first one or add new features, such as been able to do an activity where by you can enter a station terminus and actually switch ends to go back the other way, without having to create another activity.
Along with this do you think they will fix the error of loops in tracks. at the moment if you have a loop in a track, to go back along the track you came along, MSTS seems to get a little confused. which can be really annoying! Im hoping for a multiplayer but im guessing that this would be very unlikley, as it would be complicated to create, with each person having there own customized train, then that trains graphics would have to be downloaded before i play, but im not too fussed about multiplayer at the moment.

Going back to the main purpose of this post, I am still wondering if MSTS is just going to be a few new route, and new menus, instead of teh real things that we need fixing. i suppose not many people will know how to answer this question, as none has certain infomation, but i just thought id say, to make you really think, what is the big deal with a new MSTS if it is not going to benefit us is good way?

Feel free to post your comments on here as i would like to see what you are all thinking :)

Multiplayer work in flight sim i think, so transfering it to MSTS can't be that hard.

Multiplayer

Post by Backfoot2002 »

Thats is actually true, as people have there own custom planes in FS and the multiplayer works fine. But im still not holding my breath as even if it does work in flight sim, then it doesnt mean that they will apply the same thing to train sim, otherwise when they released MSTS, they could have added the feature then. But on the other hand, they may not have released it due to the fact that it wasn't until late 2002-2003 when lots more people started ot get faster internet connections, and with MSTS bee released Autum 2001, they may not have seen it coming. Like i said before though, i would like this feature on, but im doubting it.

Hi there

Just thinking aloud.... could MSTS1 have been MS "testing the water" to see how sucessful it would be before they lay on a load of servers to run multiplayer etc, from what I hear sales of MSTS1 have been higher than they expected, nothings concrete but I read somewhere its now late Spring to early Summer but this does change almost as often as our weather systems

MSTS Sales

Post by Backfoot2002 »

You could be right there you know. If you remeber before MSTS, there was no other fully 3D Train Sim. They may very well have bin testing the water to see what it would be like. all im hoping is that the second one is more stable than anything. the current version is ok, but ive had so many graphics issues, loading issues, RE issues, and the list can go on for ever, but thats all i really want the to fix. to me the graphics at the moment are superb, i dont if it cos i have a Geforce FX5600 256MB DDR, x8 AGP, :) , but to me they look great.

I'm thinking the discussions about MSTS 2 have been an enormous waste of time and one of the most pointless topics on UKTS since Kuju gave up on development. No one has a clue what M$ is planning given M$'s rudeness in not giving us ANY indication, and anyone who claims otherwise is almost certainly full of cr@p. Even if someone posting here did know what was planned, no one would believe them.

Well, you asked. :D

good idea! one person could shunt the train, and the other could conrol the signals, and what would also be fun would be where you could have a REAL guard on another computer that can open/shut the doors. you could also have a thing where you can just sit back and relax in the passenger compartment of a train that someone else is driving :D

(i know i've got high hopes :( )

people might want to consider searching the forums for the word multiplayer. MP trainsim has been discussed to death.

Another point worth considering, is that MSFS and MSTS are 2 COMPLETELY different games with different objectives. Just because they are being developed / published by the same company does in no way mean they have anything in common. So saying they can take features from one and drop them into another is pure fantasy land.

Well obviously it'd take some initiative and work, but it'd probably just need them to develop the game to run on The Zone.

That's how online flyng was started with FS. It's roots are in being played over MSN's Gaming Zone, originally with between 4, 8 or 16 "players".
That has since been expanded upon not by Microsoft but by third parties, principally the freeware, community through plug-ins/software such as Roger Wilco, Squawkbox, ProCotroller, FSUIPC etc.
Even now when connecting to VATSIM, to fly with literally hundreds and hundreds of fliers, you go through a front end in Flight Sim which is geared towards playing over a LAN, "The Zone" with a dozen or so people.

It's not impossible. Probably still a long way off, and that's if people devote time and effort to creating such a mode for TS.
I don't know about people acting as guards and the like, I was thinking more just a driver and signalman situation.

If any of you have flown on VATSIM and dealt with controllers, you'll know that returning to FS2002s/FS2004s ATC system is not a pleasant experience.

Your quite right about it being fantasy. Without the programmers sewing the seeds for multiplay then it'll never happen.

Well Microsoft are been hash to us all, by not telling us what it going to be in the game. Yesterday i Emailed GAME, the shop, and they said that do not even have a realease date from microsoft, but it is avaliable ot order, but there is also no price. seen as though microsoft do not have a release date, i presume that the game is not finished, and therefore they are not stating what is on the game, and what is not, as it would on result in false information. I was reading the information the GAME website though, only to find a fwe bits of information, such as, changing weatehr conditions & moving people, which i think we all already know. but that review was written a while ago, when KUJU, were not bee so annoying, and aactually making the game, but things have changed now.

Multiplayer:

I agree with Lucazone, when he says "it has discussed to the death". It is a possibility, but it all depends if microsoft can be bothered to do so. with KUJU backing out of he games desgin, then this would have put there plans back, so now they are tryign teh best they can to get the game realeased, even if it means, no mulitplayer. they may or may not realease it later.

Thats all i have to say

Multiplayer MSTS? I'd not thought about that! It sounds a really cool idea.

BVE wasn't fully 3D though, stoooopidperson. You couldn't go outside the train and watch it fly by you.
