Weird Consist Problem

Post by tony25 »

I've just encountered a strange problem, which as far as i can tell, occurred after installing the Northern Rail Route, and doing some Activity Analysis tweaks.
Trainsim runs fine, but when i loaded up the Activity Editor (just to check the 'look' of a freight consist) i got a report saying that two consists were missing, acelastd.con and 2000std.con. All my 'default' MSTS stock and consists are stored in a backup folder as i only run UK routes, so i copied the 2 consists out in order to sort out the problem. (Note: all my installed routes and activites report no missing consists or files in Activty Analysis or Route Riter however.
I ran Activity Editor again, and the two consists were again reported as missing, even though they were back in my consists folder. Does anyone have any ideas?
It's really annoying to have to close down the error pop up boxes every time i do anything in Activity Editor. As i've said, i've checked all my activities in TrainSim and they load without problems.

Have you downloaded any activities lately which use the 2 consists you mention, you say you have done some activity tweaking, if by chance you've changed the make up of these consists but kept the same name this will cause an error.

Changing items within a consist (to stock you have installed), but keeping the same consist name would not generate a missing con file error. If anything, changing the consist name would generate an error.
As i said above, the acelastd.con and 2000std.con files are now back in my consists folder, but Activity Error is not seeing them as there. All my activities have been run through Activity Analysis and Route Riter, and no consists are missing any files not installed on my system. Those two consists are not listed as used in any analysis reports at all. The only thing i can think of, is that they are used as static consists which are more difficult to get at in order to edit them.
But my problem is that MSTS Activity Editor gives an error saying these too consists are missing when they are indeed in my consists folder, yet MSTS Train Simulator runs without generating the same error.

Ca55ie, they are there and always have been. The only things i've removed to seperate backup folders is the default consists.

edit: aaaah, i see i may have confused you by my original post saying ALL my default stock was in backup folders, when actually it's just the consists and freight / passenger wagons. The locos have always been there for UK loco aliasing purposes. Sorry

I have had some weird problems with activity editor but not that one. I have found that if you use regedit and delete all the entries begining with AE it cures the problem. If you do this run regedit from run on start bar, press ctrl and F to open search window.Type in HWRenderer and click find.
When it has found it click on the top entry beginning AE and press and hold the shift key and click on the last AE entry. This should highlight them all. then press delete key. When you reopen AE if this is going to work, it should have done by now.
