Annoying flicker

Post by apeacock »

I am running under Win2k Pro with an NVidia Geforce4 MX420 graphics card.
MSTS was running well until I also install Dungeon Seige and upgraded Direct-X.

Now I get terrible flicker at the menus and with some messages, plus MSTS does seem to run slower. Dungeon Seige also shows the flicker. :-?

When I installed Dungeon Seige on its own under Xp on anopther machine it was fine.

It looks as though the Direct-X upgrade has done the damage, but removing & reinstalling the NVidia drivers, and upgrading & reinstalling Direct-X hasn't fixed it. The Direct-X diagnostics don't help either.

Any ideas anyone? Other than a complete reinstallof everything, which I just can't face!

Alan

Just a couple of suggestions
a) For MSTS run 'mprofile' (and reset graphics when starting train.exe)
b) Check your 'refresh rate' in your 'display' screen in control panel ..should be 75Hz or over.
c) Look for possible adjustments for your card..OpenGl..3d etc..have a look in there!!!
After that you're on your own...but I'm sure someone will have the so simple answer that we can't see..

Hi jbilton
I have XP pro..latest DX drivers ..no problems.
It must be card/driver/setting related.

I've got this too....

It's not Dungeon Siege although if you have the Data Disk that has problems...but that's for the relavent site.

I've been using DX9a for sometime with no problems and it was only when I installed nVidia's 53.XX drivers which IMHO are better, I seem to get better FPS with train sim plus Cricket 2002 dose'nt freeze up after 25 overs anymore.....so I ain't complaining

Cheers,

No you can't....but "wipe" means format the HD and reinstall from fresh....so far with this new machine I've done it 6 times in 8 weeks...and I'm just about fed up with WinXP

me thinks direct x is not installed correctly

might be worth uninstalling and reinstalling the whole thing

you could also try uninstalling the graphics card driver then rebooting and let xp rediscover the card

best of luck

To check if it is a problem with Direct X, go to "run" on the start menu and type "dxdiag". This will bring up the Direct X Diagnostic tool. Run through all the tests and see if any problems come up. Especially useful will be the Direct Draw and Direct 3D tests on the Display tab. If you find problems try reinstalling Direct X by downloading the latest version and installing it (even if you have the latest version), then try the tests again. If you still have problems its likely to be your graphics drivers at fault, reinstall these (remove the old ones first) and download the latest version.

Hi
Thanks for all the good advice..but DirectX says no problems.
Latest problems to manifest are unability to run activities that used to run fine.
And trackmonitor (F4)causes a crash
Experimenting with creating a seperate MSTS profile at the moment..so we'll see how that goes. :-?
