A few years now.

They used to do the Kings Cross - York White Rose services, but now they do the Kings Cross - Leeds White Rose services.

I think these are the regional Eurostars (373/2's?)

Certanly to best way to go on a Eurostar without a passport :)

Yep they are a very smooth ride too. God bless GNER. Not all of the units are in GNER blue though, some are left lively Eurostar Grey.

I've only seen one; click here to see the piccy

the livery looks nice on them, smarter than the eurostar grey.

I think the Livery is the best they'll carry.
Isnt the GNER Eurostar just a temporary measure though?

Paul Carrack, sometime around 1990. Sorry, vague reference to a song. Google also says there's another song of that name by Van Morrison.

Ah, yes, the 373/3 Regional Eurostars! Best use of spare stock ever, I hear 'The Fast One' is now part of the GNER fleet*. They are due to end their service sometime around 2007, when Eurostar (and GNER) estimate they will be required for either Internationals or CTRL-Domestics - which could be interesting if GNER Holdings win the Kent franchise! The White Rose services are very nice, having travelled on Eurostar at the full 300km/h and GNER at 200km/h, I have to admit to not being able to properly distinguish between the two speeds, indeed, they felt (although did not 'look') just as fast as each other. I nearly fell asleep on the '225' on the way back though (a sign of a good operator in my view!).

*'The Fast One' is sets 3313/14, which, unless you've been in a hole for the last year, you should know are the record-holding sets!

I've never done a Eurostar proper (through the tunnel) but have had the GNER ones quite a few times. They must be the best riding trains on the national network by a long way and although I think the internal colours are really awful, the seats are incredibly comfortable and love the fact that they have quite low backs so its easy to see over. The only bit I really hate are the fold down bits on the tables as although they are great in principal I have twice hurt my finger on them. It always amases me how when going over a neutral section the APC (automatic power control) shuts off power before the front powercar has passed over and doesn't switch it back on until the rear powercar has passed over. This means that when pulling away front Retford going north where their is a neutral section not far from the station, the set is without power for quite a while and looses quite a lot of speed, which must make the chance of "gapping" pretty high. One thing I really like about the Eurostar, and the TGV type trains in general, is that although they are EMUs, they still have powercars at each end and, other than the front bogie of the leading coach, the rest of the coaches are unpowered.

I'll be going down the CT on one next year, that much is certain. I reckon I'll be there some hours beforehand to photograph them!

You carnt, you get kept in a underground bunker (okay its not a bunker but its nasty) until 15/20 minutes before departure, you best bet it traveling in and out of Waterloo on SWT and leaning out the windows.
