Europeanbahns new 'route'
Moderator: Moderators
Well, Dave, Peterborough is on Latitiude 52.58N. That's further north than Birmingham (52.48N) and Aberystwyth (52.40N) neither of which are regarded as southern by their inhabitants. Norwich is 52.65N, further north than Uttoxeter which is close to where I used to live (52.53N). Milton Keynes near Bletchley is 52.02N which is substantially more southerly than most of the others so far, and of course Bristol is South West which the locals do not regard as the "South" as such, although at 51.28N is south of the Midlands and Anglia.basildd wrote:Well it is southern based - for example, I am in Peterborough, you are in Norfolk, one Ian is Germany, the other in Retford, John is in Bletchley, Andy and Alan are in Bristolshire, Daryn is in Peterborough, Steve is in Colchester, Gary is somewhere near there - I would say southern in the sense of no-one north of the border but I am not sure where Alex resides! Ken, Dave and Nick may be southerners but there are a lot more who aren't, some of whom aren't even listed here!
For comparison Stoke-on-Trent is 53.01N (less than half a degree further north of Norwich), Crewe 53.05N, Nottingham 52.57N, Grantham 52.54N, whereas true southern locations include Bournemouth (50.43N) Brighton (50.50N), Basingstoke (51.16N) and of course some unimportant village called London at (51.30N)
A lot of people forget the British isles are actually tilted, unlike the BBC Weather map, so bizarrely the most westerly railway station in the UK isn't Penzance (which is the most southerly) but Mallaig in Scotland.
I'd agree there is a Central-East bias to the outfilt but not southern. It's like saying Exeter or King's Lynn is part of the South-East commuter belt and should be branded as such. Oh, BR tried that, didn't they...
I will concede Germany is slightly south of most places in the UK (although I suspect North East Germany near Poland is probably on a similar latitude to south east Kent...)

Tracks, trains, stations, scenery (bounus item) and on land (mostly).XPTE wrote:Are Europeanbahn able to give us any major clues as to what this route will be?
It will connect all the Southern areas, lived by The EB 'irregularlar' (sennapods please?).
Through trains from Lubenham to Basingstoke via Peterborough and Milton Keynes near Bletchley. Stock will be mainly plastic and convey milk as required.

.. Someone beat me to it!
I'd started on a co-op liveried slam-door unit but put it on hold as it's not "officially" available yet (but can do 186mph through Gatwick, can't it Dave....
) Mind you the Dairy Crest 455 actually looks quite nice - perhaps LynnFizzy's "m8" should take up the job professionally.
I assume the guy couldn't do it under his own name and had to use his m8 because he was worried in case "Mr Buffy" (I'm still wringing the laughter out of my trouser leg after reading that - Welcome to Eurobahn Dogs, with Mr Buffy, Mr Dave, Mr Wombat, Mister Bus, Mr....) appeared on his doorstep in a black suit and shades packing a rod, and not for fishing.
