Samsung Advert\ Streamlined Duchess

Post by TOMMO79 »

About a week ago I saw a bit of an advert featuring a computer generated image of a blue streamlined Duchess with matching coaches, has anyone else seen this or am I confusing dreams with reality?

Saw it last night for the first time! Strange choice of train for a non rail interested company to be using - wonder whats the story behind it...

Can't say I've seen it myself. What product is it advertising, or is it just a general push of the Samsung brand?
I do like the Samsung mobile adverts i.e. Estella Warren 8).

Yeah I was expecting an advert for Horny Trains. It was nice to watch and it got my attention, but I cannot remeber what it was selling, so techinally its a bad advert.

It's an advert for a television if I recall rightly and it's not really a bad advert, it's just that us train spotters got far too interested in the 'wrong' bit of the advert :)

Basically the advert starts with a field except it seems different, in fact, it's like it's all underwater if I remember correctly. Then out of a tunnel comes a blue train storming through this underwater world. It's very unclear what you can see but the livery (blue with silver stripes) and rough shape (bullet) make it reasonably obvious to any good spotter what they are seeing :)

I think the pitch is that it's about clarity and sound because you get the booming of the train and the tinkles of water, and bright vivid colours with a blue sky, green field and bright blue train storming along the rails.

Certainly an interesting advert, saw it for the first time yesterday and funnily enough my wife asked what it was advertising at the end :)
(mostly I think the error is that the actual 'pitch' of the advert is done in a totally different style if I recall, so it psychologically registers as a different advert :) ).

or is it an "homage" to the very first cinema flick that scared audiences with a train heading towards them?

LOL... It's a good advert, and proof that I'm getting too involved in the train scene as I recognized the engine immediately.

I suppose some n00b adman (or woman) is a train-fan and the company liked the style of the engine. 30s style streamlining and art-deco is very fashionable, so any smart train like that would have done. Hudson, A4, the GWR... errr... perhaps not GWR.

BIG update on this one.

There we were all patting ourselves on the back for spotting the Duchess in this advert. Well have I got news for you...

Scanning through the Radio Times for either this week or last week, there's a press advert for the same telly, showing a blue and white loco front. Now to me it looked remarkable like a US E or F unit, but then something about the colouring seemed familiar, and I reckon it could be the prototype Deltic.

But then it could also be an amalgam of different images. I think the bubble streams coming off the TV ad made it look much more like a kettle. Keep an eye out for the press ad.

It definitely ain't a Duchess in the press.
