Fun at Leicester last night

Post by petermakosch »

I went to the station last night- VERY COLD!!! But it was a little more fun that i would have thought!

As normal, HST pulls in and gets the whistle to go, train moves, reaches about 2 MPH and stops, as the station guy shines the red light, as someone didnt close a door properly, all is good, after the Emergency Brakes were realeased, the train goes again, 1mph, 2mph, 0mph, some lady was trying to get on the train.
The 43 at this point was half way in the tunnel, and the Guard was telling the station porter to tell the passengers to move back, and it was all of a choas! I just sat there watching it, never having seen it before.
Eventually the train got moving and was out.

No more than 15 mins later on platform 2, another HST, this time, must have been at about 7-9mph did an emergency stop, but as i was over the other side, i couldnt see.

Then, a little later, an HST came in, and then started puling off when i saw some lady sticking right out of the door window, trying to open the door, looked like she was about to fall out, but the station porter has also seen and said something, and she sat back down.... the price for falling asleep :D

What is it about night time? More people doing what they want? It would make sense, people are more tired, but at 6PM ish, they shouldnt be tired!

I saw that happen at Lancaster - a lady (always a female  ) trying to force her way out of a MkIII - it was sort of open, off the latch, and so one of the guards tells here she'll have to wait until Preston, and kicks the door shut! :)

Last time I was in Leicester was on Saturday night. The 1920? Birmingham New Street - Cambridge service was cancelled and 500 people were transported onto Coaches. I was at the back of the queue and got to Leicester at midnight and 20 of us put into Taxis.

London Bridge is a good place to watch a slam door service get delayed, especially in Rush Hour when people try to get on at the last minute.

It does seem that people at night become more stupid, proberly down to tiredness eliminating the small amount of sence they have in them. At Birmingham one time a Virgin West Coast train had just been whistled out and the driver of the 47 (on a drag to Nuneaton) had just released the brake when someone came running up and tried to open the door. I was standing at the end of the platoform photographing the loco and saw it and shouted to the bloke to stand back which he did (probably though i was staff). Another time at Manchester a 101 had been buzzed away and the driver had just put it into gear as a bloke ran up, opened a door and lept on just as the train was pulling out even after being told he was to late by the guard. What with that, people opening doors when the train is moving and falling out or people leaning out and getting their brains bashed out, slam door stock is really great when it comes to darwin effect. Shame those in power belive in survivial of the stupidest so we have to have central locking and window bars at the very least and preferable sliding doors. Then again people still get injured with those when they try and throw themselves on as they shut and they get trapped so soon trains will be banned altogether.

No, morning rush hour at Basingstoke is good. People come rushing out of the coffee shop, coffe in hand, open the door of the train {usually doing above 5mph by then} ignore the shouts to 'stand away' then realise the train is packed and they have to squeeze on. In the meantime, the guard has given the driver the bell code to stop, so you get a loud bang and a flash as the line breakers open, and the brakes jam on.

Yeah, I dont understand them either, Tonight like always, we are on platform 7 at Liverpool street waiting for the road to go to Harwich, due out 17:27:00, its now 17:28:30, up comes 2 blokes try to open the last door on the train, I have already locked the CDL by now as we are due to have left, just waiting for the siggy to get his arse in gear, so they then run up to where I am & start trying to open my door, so I tell them to be off! Later in the journey one punter falls asleep & misses his stop, well we only have two stops on that train, so he is a bit miffed & is trying to open the doors when we got stopped at a platform due to a lorry bashing the level crossing gates there, what is it with these office workers, they do 9-5 or 10-4 a lot of them & they are knackered & have to sleep on the way home, they want to try 10-12 hour days!
