What does it take for Lancaster station to grind to a halt?

Post by martinhodgson »

A single lightning strike. Last year the station was closed completely when lightning struck a chimney and knocked it off the roof.

This year we get ONE single strike - and it knocks out the signalling north of the station. Delaying all trains either way. All going north had to be talked past red signals out of the station, and all southern ones had to be talked IN to the station.

One lighting strike and 90 minutes later - I got home :x

The wrong kind of electricity then. I can understand if it knocks the signals out but just knocking a chimney down? Surely they would be able to carry on without delays. Actually how big was the chimney?

Large - it's because it fell down and debris went everywhere. I think it damaged the roof too

Oh right, I pictured some tiny little one like the ones on houses. How come it keeps getting struck then? Cursed by any chance? :P

Maybe God doesn't like Lancaster? Perhaps he's a Yorkshireman? White and all that :P
