Train Dreams

Post by petermakosch »

Have you ever had a dream involving trains?

I had one this morning:
I was at Leicester Station, and it was a little but different as there was one through track inbetween Platform 2 and 3.
There was about 30 odd train Watchers/Spotters there, but i didnt know why, then they came from the north side. It was single car's of some weird classes (DLR Possibles) and class 303's, just the one car, except one was pulling a DVT.
Did anyone see that film which was on a while ago "Thinner"? By steven something i think. Well, the Gypsey guy from that (who put the curse on him) and 2 other train dudes were on the track, the two train dudes got back onto the platform, but the gypsey guy got a brick and threw it towards the platform, it hit some tiles, and smashed them to bits. Then he got another and threw it, some time passed, and people were running, scared, but the train Watchers/Spotters stayed, and i got out my 3310 (I dont even have this phone!) and dialed 999 (As ive always wanted to), but it wouldnt connect. The guy threw a brick at me, and i sort of had my phone to my ear and the arm that was holding it went up in the air to cushon the fall of the brick.
I started walking to the north side and another came, it landed on my head and arm this time. I eventually got through to 999 people, and made a boo boo of it because i said that someone else had probably called, and that i would ring back, that conversation took place in york Station (like the reception Area).

And thats all i can remember!

In my dream I had years ago, there was a class 47 that I must have been trying to imagine in parcels livery but it just didn't look right, and I was kind of arguing with myself in my dream about imagining it wrong....... Anyway, A week or two later on the cover of Rail magazine they show the new Rail Express Systems livery which was the same as in my dream.

At the time I was spooked by this and since my only source of Railway trivia back then were my Railway magazines I trawled though loads of back issues looking for any mention of RES which I may have taken in subliminally without realising - I didn't find any.

I've had a fair few preminitions - Nothing earth shattering like Nostrodamus or usefull like tonights winning lottery numbers but stupid things which wouldn't make the slightest bit of difference knowing about in advance.

I've had weird train dreams, focusing mostly on Nuneaton station. One of the LESS weird ones was seeing a blue large logo class 37 at nuneaton (which is odd in itself - 37s rarely pass this place). Another weird twist was that it was parked outside the station. In the car park. Over 7 or 8 spaces...

And yes, that's one of the LESS weird dreams I have...

I swear I'm not making this up:

I'm in the van, going to visit my grandparents. I look out the window, and I see a pair of class 47 diesels hauling a long train of oil tankers. I can still recall certain details about the diesels: BR Blue, small logo, black roofs, full yellow ends, and no train reporting number. :o
Pardon me, boy
Is that the Chattanooga choo choo?
Track twenty-nine
Boy, you can gimme a shine
I can afford
To board a Chattanooga choo choo
I've got my fare
And just a trifle to spare.

Train reporting number? Like 1A11? Trains don't have these on the front, you only see them mainly in signal boxes.

It's only the Southern that show numbers now for the route the service is on.

I lived in London when I was a small kid. I had a recurrent nightmare about the Underground. I was on the track, in a station, and a train was approaching. I would run to the far end of the platform to try to escape but the train would thunder into the station. I would always wake up before anything unpleasant occurred.

Whenever I went on a journey on the tube with my family, I would try to press them against the wall of the platform until the train had stopped - they thought I was bonkers - but it frightened me to death for years.

Silly old sod!
That's me in that picture....

I've just remembered a dream about a NSE class 50 and stock turning up at a bus stop and taking me into town using the roads!

If you think that's weird though I also had a dream years later about travelling back from town down the same road on an oil tankers, Thankfully it changed into a bus when it was time to jump off!

I think I need therepy, This thread has unblocked things I've tried to forget.... like the dream in which a bear stole my grandparents spoons, One of these days he'll wonder into one of my dreams again and I'll give him some payback by dreaming up a big bear killing machine gun.

Oh just remembered another train dream, It involved me walking around Reading depot late at night (not trespassing, I think in the dream I worked there), Anyway, A fuel wagon exploded and three big forks of red lightning shot up from it and slowly came down and electricuted me. I actually thought I'd died and woke up with my heart racing and dripping in sweat.

The moral of that story is to avoid eating cheese before you go to bed!

i had a similar one to the class 50 one ages ago. i dreamt i saw a full MML HST try to thread its way through nottingham city centre. also i had one once about a bridge over water collapsing. i was on it and there were trains on the bridge but i dont wanna discuss it because it really scares me. one of my phobia/fear things is going on wooden bridges over water. especially when you can see water between the gaps. it makes me rubbish on seaside piers. just cant do it. a bit weird coz im a good swimmer and love being on the water just not above it.

HSTs in town centres seem very popular. I had a dream that I was actually driving an HST through Loughbrough town centre. I also had another that I was driving an underground train (left hand rotary controller if i remember rightly) around the bus route past my house. In both cases I think I crashed the train in the end (oviously a preminition that I shouldn't become a train driver :D ). I also had a very realistic one about getting on a 158 at Loughbrough station quite a few years ago, even the engine sounds very very accurate. What was strange though was that I had never been on a 158 to know what they sounded like inside :o .
