Flying Scotsman: The end?

Post by anamorph »

FlyingScotsman PLC has made losses of about half a million this year
(Due in no small part to Network Rail restricting mainline running in case of lineside fires in the dry weather)
This seriously jeopardises the planned museum for Waverley.
HUMBUG!
Also, according to the news, if nothing happens soon, the engine may well
be sold to the highest bidder - probably abroad.

Absolutely apalling!

Yes we realy need more gunboats to defend the colonies.

I don't think it should be allowed to have F.S. bought by anyone but an British company / charity / whatever. It is a British machine and should stay here, I don't think we need the americans nicking off with our stuff again TVM.

But in today's P.C. society...

Lets hope it doesn't do a Pendennis Castle on us.
Pardon me, boy
Is that the Chattanooga choo choo?
Track twenty-nine
Boy, you can gimme a shine
I can afford
To board a Chattanooga choo choo
I've got my fare
And just a trifle to spare.

The government or lottery or the national trust or someone needs to buy it quickly! It would be tragic to loose such a symbolic machine.

Well if the sad news is that Mallard will not run again, Duchess of Hamilton will as they've already spent half a million quid on assessing the condition of it. Four cylinders was always better than three.

All I ask is that they scrap the wing deflectors, paint her PROPERLY in apple green, and if they won't remove the double chimney, then please disguise her as 2751 Humorist. If they CAN put the single back, then give her the RED Flying Scotsman nameplates and paint her as 103

Flying Scotsman is probably more well known than Mallard or City of Truro. I am not saying scrap or otherwise to these 2 machines.
BTW, does Pete Waterman still own 4472?
