Post by johncas »

Dose any one belive on ghosts on the railways ae railways haunted

I have to admin I have seen funny things on the Great Cental Railway rothley station

I and other people have seen a semaphore signal change on it's own at the exact time a train would of passed in the old days there was no signal man to change it

People have seen what looks like a red tail lamp light go past down the track and felt the wind you get when trains pass at speed people have also seen ghosts of old station staff have any of you folks seen anything like that at an old railway station on a steam railway or on a disused railway.

An appropriate thread for Halloween. :)

I do believe in ghosts although I have never actually witnessed any on the railways.

funny bout old staff. i got off a train at Codsall 3 or 4 years back, and the station buildings were disused. it was 2310 and it was the last train through for the night, except the odd Ironbridge coal. standing by the station was some old guy who was dressed quite weird. i asked him what was up, being a helpful kinda teenager, and he said "im waiting, always waiting" and i asked him what for, and he said "the train of course" so i went off, thinking he was a drunk.(the station is now a pub) as i only live 1 min from the station. he seemed a little old to be drunk. but then, i spoke to the old volunteer who keeps the place tidy, and he said he saw soemthing before. weird things happen eh? and i could have sworn that when i was 3 or 4 years old i saw a ghost steam engine down in Oxley yard as i passed.

Ghosts are just bugs in the Matrix. I thought everyone realised that.

Im sure there's a ghost in my copy of MSTS - or at the very least its haunted. AI train timetables seem to change on their own and in more than one activity a train has appeared ahead of me that isn't in the AI schedule, and not visible in activity editor.

spooky, but ive learned to live with it. :)

Quite seriously, the eeriest place I've been on the railway was Oxford shed at twighlight when it was used to store withdrawn locos. Walking along the lines of 'dead' locomotives, I definately sensed a feeling of their former power ....

Spooky :P

Most worrying thing I've done was walk along a disused tunnel in the Kaimai Ranges. Kept looking back in case a goods train came thundering down the line.
Pardon me, boy
Is that the Chattanooga choo choo?
Track twenty-nine
Boy, you can gimme a shine
I can afford
To board a Chattanooga choo choo
I've got my fare
And just a trifle to spare.

Reminds me of a couple of stories one of my friends told me, one funny and one spooky.

Back in the 70's him and a friend used to walk along old trackbeds, One time they were planning to walk through what must have been quite a long tunnel and quite popular with walkers. They took a ghetto blaster with them containing a tape of steam trains and when they were halfway down hid in one of the duckets. Soon afterwards a couple of old women were coming towards them so they played the tape at full blast! Despite the fact that there was no track he said they couldn't get out of there any faster.

During another trip they walked through another disused tunnel, apparently they were familiar with it and had been through plenty of times. They had been walking for quite a while and were pretty sure that they should have made it to the end sometime ago, however it was nowhere in sight. they carried on walking far longer than they should have then their torches stopped working and they had an overwhelming feeling that if they carried on walking they would never get out of there so they turned around and he obviously lived to tell the tale :-?
