Most of the problems that people have with Win XP has nothing to do with the actual OS, but everything to do with all the spyware/adware/. that's installed on their computers and running without them knowing it.
I scan through my hdd at least once a week (manually and using Ad-Aware) for scumware, thus keeping my computer absolutely clean. I run Windows XP Pro and I've never had any problems with the actual OS, only the stuff running at the time.
XP is the most stable OS I've ever used, and I've used 95, 98, 98SE and 2000 Professional as well. I'd highly recommend it to anyone who's thinking of upgrading their operating system.

FTP is a way of transferring files between two PC's, or a PC and the Internet.
It's mostly used by people uploading many files in one go to their webspace for creating websites. There's apparently a lot of uses, but that is the one FTP's used for most commonly. It's an interesting way to download stuff, but I know no person that uses that method.
To use FTP, you really need some decent FTP software, free to download from the Internet somewhere, and some files to transfer, and somewhere to send them to.
Hope that helps.

Project H2P status: Currently awaiting software to fix PC problems. Got a start on .mkr file, hoping to continue that soon. Wprk should re-commence very soon.

Just a quick update....as I been running XP for a couple of weeks...having turned the MS reporting errors off in the OS...it seems to stop MSTS phoning home aswelltommyt wrote:Thanks for all the advice. I will check the voltage on the PSU - there is a utility with the M/B which will log it, and Go for XP, I think, though I might sit back fro just a bit and see what happens. I could try changing the graphics card, but that will be expensive, especially if I land up changing the OS as well!!
Thanks again, now I will sit back and consider

If you do go for XP...dont forget to put anti virus on before connecting to the internet...a friend of mine didn;t and had 3 virus attacks within 30 mins

Anti Virus
No when I said "put Anti Virus on"...I didn't mean anything to do with the built-in Firewall..I meant Anti virus software...and then connect immediately to MS and download the some what huge download of about 250Mb of security updates which XP requires (upto service pack 4)
You would have thought MS would have updated the CDs...or maybe I've just got an old copy

Im currently running ME on my main pc and never had problems with MSTS.,However I just put Win 2003 server on my backup pc but haven't installed MSTS on it still trying to work it out I know that d/loading on 2003 server is a pain because you have to have the site in your trusted sites folder before it lets you d/load anything.

Re: Anti Virus

Yep, I did say turn the XP one on before getting something better.welshdragon wrote:The drawback of the Firewall in XP is that whilst it stops everything coming in, it allows everything to go out without asking. So ZoneAlarm or something similar is a must.
If the xp one had been enabled by default, we wouldn't have had that virus that makes the pc's keep shutting down, can't remember what it was called

Re: Anti Virus
This is true...that all os are open to attack....its just that alot of the latest virus are written to take advantage of the numerous security holes in WinXP (about 200 on the last count)...and as MS close them....more are found.Stooopidperson wrote:then why did you say "If you do go for XP"? Win98 while not as fancy...does not have as many
