I went from Derby to Carlisle via Leeds and Settle behind a 47 and came back the same way behind Duchess of Sutherland. An excellent run. The moors looked splendid in the clear autumn light and DoS was slipping badly above Appleby so the dead 47 on the tail was started up and we did a stretch as a push-pull ;)

Got back to Derby at 10:40, great pyrotechnics in the dark.

Why use 72 cylinders when 3 will do the job? when I was at Haymarket, the Deltics were highly thought of - if a trifle complicated!!

Ah yes, saw it running the positioning up north through Lancaster during the week :)

It did a nice slow run through the freight lines, looked great!

I was hoping to go across (from Tyneside) to see DoS but couldn't get details of times. :( Perhaps we could use the forums to publicise these more widely.
Where do they prepared steam locos in Carlisle for these runs (went to see number 9 arrive and later depart a few weeks ago and wondered where they took it in between)?

i hope 60009 will be a great success when it attacks the south Devon banks, when it does the tour from Paddington - plymouth and rtn. Steam Hauled from Bristol - Plymouth - Bristol.
