Well, it did say, "An investigation into the cause of the fire has begun, but it is thought it started inside one of the vans." So no one knows the exact reason now...

from the end of the line forum (member of)

EWS Driver alerted the emergency services after the cartics caught fire after a hot axle. Driver unhurt but track is being repaired and in a bit of a mess. Train was 2133 Washwood-Heath-Bathgate loaded cartics with Citroens. Train then returns with the empties using ECML but wont be doing that yet. I think that the burnt cartics (2 of them) will be getting dumped at Carnforth or being scrapped on site just like at Quintinshill

Different picture from what was in the dundee courier but this picture on sky news site defiantley does not show vans

http://www.skynews.co.uk/skynews/articl ... 83,00.html

Im sure i can see a 206 and a C3
Citreon dont make the 206
Also car derived vans usually have their rear side windows covered over with body work, and there is clearly glass holes there

The vehicles definately wouldn't be vans loaded on that type of wagon ( TAL 489 ) as they would be out of gauge, vans are loaded on flats. Someone told me last week that one of the peugeot models is prone to spontaneous combustion, I just hope it isn't the 406 as i have just got one.

Latest suggestions are that illegal immigrants were travelling on the train.

Reports say the interior light was seen to be on in one of the vans.

It would not be the first time.

I'd heard it was Citrons and Peugeots, and remembered a report about Peugeots that had faulty starter motors, and that they'd keep trying to start even when parked, and eventually burst in to flames.

Quick search of google bought up http://www.fireservice.co.uk/forum/inde ... #entry8511

Think this might be what grahamrfd is saying about with the "Someone told me last week that one of the peugeot models is prone to spontaneous combustion". Wonder if it could be the cause...?

Yeh saw that on watchdog and the interior light in a van being on that could of been left on by a worker by mistake
