Why are TOC's so bollo*ks?

Post by petermakosch »

I emailled one today. On the 18th of October I am 18 years old, and I asked if MML could give me a cab ride as a favor (as that would be one of the best prezzies ever!), and they said no. How stink is that?
Still, the lady i emailled was very nice and very polite. She said if i needed to know any more information- i can email her back, so i will be doing :)
I think there should be a club where people can join and these people can have certain privilages and things different about train's- like they know info first on new trains and things.

The don't let anyone without a cab pass into the cabs these days due to a terrorist threat. It's a security precaution.

You can't have a cab ride unless

1) You are trained safety critical staff with a purpose of being there.

2) A traction inspector is present. With most companies being quite short of those and their time being expensive, as much as they would like to they can't give anyone a cab ride, even on request. Not a question of being nice, just one of resources.

What ever gave you that idea.

From the little I know, TOC's are generally the most analally retentive companies you will ever meet in your life.

Why not check out these :: Exhibit - A Exhibit - B

This is about the same as some complete stranger asking if he can sit in the passenger seat of ur car, and video u driving somewhere. Who the ehll is gonna say yes to that?

U obviously have no concept of Health and Safety regulations.

Also u might want to go into hiding, as ur about to get alot of TOC employee's who frequent these forums, giving you their piece of mind over how dam right rude ur topic and opening post is, and how completely unjustified it is.

I agree Michael.

I know Peter was possibly a bit niaive to think cab rides are still permitted, but let's not keep going on about it. I'm sure the railway companies get many thousands of requests for cab rides from enthusiasts of all ages who don't realise that things have changed from the sixties when it was relatively easier to get a cab pass.

And I wish Lucazone you wouldn't adopt that tone every time someone makes a posting you have a problem with. Calling Peter's posting rude in a reply like that is a classic case of cooking recepticles addressing water heating containers as having carbon deposits on their base.

You won't always get what you want in life. Why not just accept it when things don't go your way instead of venting your anger saying all TOCs are not lovely smiley companies (they aren't charities, they are real life companies competing for money on the rail network).

So u dont think someone stating that rail companies are 'bo**ocks' purely because they wont let that person have their way with somehting that is widely known as not possible anymore.

OK then, the amount of times i have written to my station AND mml, and they have not responded is a lot. So i have taken the matter into my own hands, and am talking to the station staff and drivers directly. There is a nice driver whose bold- we had a good chat, and the station staff know me now, so mml can go somewhere else!
petermakosch wrote:well i am taking a different aproach.
Today i was talking to a driver, and i got in the cab! A big thing for me.
He was very nice, and told me loads of info.
Im just going to get to know all the drivers, and be a "Friend of the Company" and then they will be more inclined to give me a cab ride.
But by the time they trust me enough, i will probably be old enough to be a driver!
Its interesting to see on previous occasions when talking about this subject that you admit that uve been turned down legally, yet still persist at getting a cab ride.

You even comment that once knowing a number of drivers and station staff enough 'they will be more inclined to give u a ride'. Do you think after knowing you more, that they will be more willing to loose their job for you?

So based on all these facts that u previously knew. Why are u acting suprised that they refused you once again?

Take a hint..............it aint gonna happen. If it does, then it wont be legally, and i hope u fully understand the risks involved. U, the driver, and all the passengers....

Geeze, get off his back! I for one didn't know they were illegal...I wouldn't go up and ask them though...It would have been a nice 18th gift, but unfortunately it ain't going to happen.

If it was legal, I'd have been in a Class 43 FGW HST cab, a Class 158 Wales and Borders cab and a Calss 150/170 Central Trains cab (only because they're local)!

Getting to know the staff at a station is always a good idea if you want to find out things. I'm trying to get to know Hereford's staff and drivers so I can find out about what speed limits are present, how far they go and other stuff you can't find out easily from the carriages.
Project H2P status: Currently awaiting software to fix PC problems. Got a start on .mkr file, hoping to continue that soon. Wprk should re-commence very soon.

The Marches line running North/South is 90mph for sprinters in the main. Going east, the line is 60-80mph for most of it's length to Wocester. The Cotwolds line is cleared for 90/100mph for most of it's length, apart from around Chipping Campden, where's it's 75mph.
